Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/26
Comments (31)I listened to a portion of the podcast above and read through the document Sue shared (as well as another similar one I found). I think there are some interesting points and certainly some guidelines I can roll into my weekly diet -- but I don't think I can completely follow the "reset". Sure, there are things that will be hard because I have leaned into the carbs in recent past but there are a handful of deal breakers for me -- like coffee. Bullet-proof coffee does not sound appealing to me and my early morning coffee is seriously one of my joys in the day. I often go to sleep looking forward to waking in the early hours and having my coffee. It's part of a ritual of self care .. 1-2 hrs of quiet time before emails and calls start coming in. Still, there are lessons to be had .. I know I need to make some changes in order to start losing weight again .. so I will be digging in deeper to the program and recipes. I think my biggest fault right now is that I have been spending very little thought and time on preparing food. It is partially that I've been lazy and partially that I've been bored. And maybe a bit defiant also. Sometimes, I just eat what I want-- or think I want. I need to be more intentional... and accountable. @Sueb20 have you started the 21-day re-set yet? If so, how is it going? @legomom23 I appreciate the information/links you bring to our group! So helpful! Like you, I have been giving into items on the "slow down" list ... and I think they are the reason I have been feeling slow and bloated. I will be starting there! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! sorry to hear you are still dealing with house issues. Stress usually causes me to eat much less but lately, it has gone the other direction. Protein and veggies sounds like a good strategy -- I know I can deal with life better when I am feeling better/stronger. Hope things start going more smoothly with the repairs/issues. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It is so helpful to hear what others are doing to improve their health! My eye infection is getting better but it is still annoying and gross... and it is adding to the issues I already had with my vision. Hoping it will clear in another handful of days. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Have a great rest of your week!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/9/2025
Comments (12)I feel like my stress is through the roof these days, and I can feel that it's not good for me physically either. We are under contract on a house to buy, but are concerned it won't appraise and will require re-negotiation, and it is contingent on the sale of our house. Our house is going up today (yikes) with hopefully showings starting tomorrow. I have the utmost confidence in our team of realtors (who we've worked with before and become friends). We also have our undeveloped land up for sale, though that will take longer. It's incredible just how much work has to be done to get a house ready for sale (photos 2x since the first photographer did a terrible job) and I am very stressed about showings. Not to mention we are in the middle of annual review cycle at work and I have a manager who needs some critical feedback (new report of mine) who hasn't seemed to have had any kind of critical feedback from his manager(s) in the past. All of this chaos has been impacting my exercise and eating. There have been numerous days I've had to skip exercise to work with our realtors or to work morning to night on getting the house ready while working a (more than) full time job. I'm trying my best, but I just have not been able to stay on routine. I spent my lunch time today (when I'd normally exercise on Wednesdays) making phone calls, dealing with earnest money, etc. Tomorrow I will (hopefully) have showings and will need to work from a family member's house with my dog. I probably will have to be tidying up the house in the morning to make it spotless instead of exercising (again). On the eating front I am trying to stick to at least a normal 2x/week partial fasting day (aiming for one 500 calorie meal in the evening and no breakfast or lunch). I haven't been able to manage even one 36 hour fast in the last week and I'm constantly stress-hungry. I'm sticking to my guns on no weekday alcohol, but it doesn't mean I don't daydream of sitting down with a glass of wine on a weeknight to relax. I'm positive I've eaten more calories than normal just from feeling so stressed out. Hopefully this will all calm down and I'll be able to move somewhere with more outdoor space and fresh air. Nearby hiking trails. But I'll be much much further from swimming pools which is making me very stressed out too. I don't want to lose my momentum, but we're trying to move out of the city to somewhere a little more peaceful....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/23/2025
Comments (24)I cannot say I have much to be proud of in terms fitness, exercise, or eating lately. We are right in the middle of selling our house, selling our undeveloped lot, and buying another house. Two of those transactions are connected through contingencies and dates and it's utterly exhausting. The house we're buying has some unexpected issues to address, some of which need to happen before we move in, but the window of time between when we can actually gain access to the new house and must leave the old house is really really short, just a few days. I am swamped at work and feeling major pressure and trying to balance that with having to make so many phone calls to get estimates and schedule inspections and sign addendum after addendum. Not to mention having to leave the house for hours at a time and at the drop of a hat tidy the house up to be in a show state for the buyers. Needless to say I'm STRESSED OUT! I am trying to find some time to exercise, but really it's only a few days a week, not the daily exercise I'm used to. There is a lot of moving around, cleaning, packing, de-cluttering, etc. But very little dedicated exercise time. This week my exercise is going to be derailed by four long days of in-person work events. Many people are in from out of town so I end up being forced to do social activities beyond normal work hours. Not to mention I will not have good access to food that is safe for me to eat (gluten intolerance). They say they provide gluten free food, but I've gotten sick at these before and I hate having to explain that I'd prefer not to eat rather than risk getting sick from a bad caterer or people cross-contaminating the buffet tongs. I am trying to keep up with intermittent fasting (5:2) though I feel like I'm over-eating and over-drinking in general. I can feel my body is losing it's fitness and it's so frustrating. I loved reading all of your positive updates and I hope that maybe in a month I'll be back with some of my own positive updates....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/21/2025
Comments (6)Right, funky, that is the question RE: maintenance. Some people are successful at dropping dose and/or spacing out their shots to more days. There is no real maintenance protocol, and it really is individualized. I’ve stayed around the same this week, maybe up half a pound. I just don’t think for the metabolic benefits I’d ever be able to come off it. There are so many other medications in the pipeline, including oral medications that might be better for maintenance. Lilly is now offering the Zepbound in vials for cash price for those without insurance, and they have to be ordered every 45 days so that might work for a maintenance plan. It is slightly less than what I am paying for the single injector pens per month. I did at least get through some closet cleaning this week. Donation bags, recycle bags, take for alterations pile, and being able to shop in my closet again, which is great. On the what to wear thread you can follow my drama on getting a new suit for headshots. I think right now I’m between a 10 and a 12 so it’s still hard to figure out what fits, but I can wear some things that are M, so that’s a huge victory. But then some things are still L, XL, etc. At least I still have a booty. DH is hoping to lose some weight before we go to the music festival in May. I think I will make salmon in parchment for dinner today. That is one of my favorites. Back to school this week for the final stretch of the semester. This is just the worst time since it’s so stressful with student advising and registration. I just have to put my head down and plow through it....See MoreRelated Professionals
