Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/26
Comments (26)@Funkyart - I really don't know a lot about fasting. There is some conflicting info about it - as with all diet methods I think. What I did though was more one meal a day I guess. I was going to fast all day Friday, but I forgot I had a trainer workout. So, after that, around 11:00 am, I ate about 30 grams of protein in case I needed it for muscle recovery, and then fasted until 11:00 am Saturday. I just had plain water, and water with electrolytes. Tuesday I had a bagel for breakfast, then a 4 hour drive where I snacked on chips and a snack mix, so I decided I should fast again! So, I just stopped eating around 3 until Wednesday at 3. I'm not sure how often I'll try this. But every so often just to get myself back on track seems like a good idea for me personally. I'm not wearing a CGM right now, but the day after my fast last week was the most steady blood sugar day I'd had in awhile. I try to eat 3 meals a day, because otherwise how can I get all my food requirements and nutrients in? So, this is in contrast to that. It's a balance for sure! I see bone broth recommended a lot for fasting. I know my blood sugars are ok, so I just try to stay well hydrated. It does help me get in my water goal - drink instead of eat. I have read if you get a headache, you might need salt or electrolytes, so bone broth would be good for that. I had to put a little post it on the pantry to remind me not to eat nuts - mindless snacking can be a problem for me....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/5/2025
Comments (19)Gscience, I usually call my office the computer room since DH used to have his play computer back here also. Both computer room and masterbed room are on the north side of the house so I feel your cold. Our north windows became drafty where the bottom window latch meets the top window & it was last year I discovered bubble wrap stuck tight in the gaps. What a difference! The only thing different I'm doing beginning today is taking Centrum Silver. I don't eat as well as I should, especially meat/iron. Oddly enough, with my poor eating habits my blood sugar went down. Especially since I stopped taking another med (not Ozempic, yuck!) with my regular meds (I'm so done with Ozempic, makes me sick) because I had the main side effect, dizziness. And I unintentionally lost 5 pounds the past three months. I guess this is a NYE resolution, I'm being diligent in keeping my whole body moisturized, especially feet, hands, and face. Norovirus is breaking out everywhere, and of course OK doesn't keep track of it, but the day after Christmas DS & family went to OH for a week, and while driving home, the middle DGD threw up all the way. They had bags for her and had to get home before they got stuck in the OH snow. OH is having a Noro outbreak. I bet it's in OK now. lol I've had it and I don't ever want to get it again!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/9/2025
Comments (12)I feel like my stress is through the roof these days, and I can feel that it's not good for me physically either. We are under contract on a house to buy, but are concerned it won't appraise and will require re-negotiation, and it is contingent on the sale of our house. Our house is going up today (yikes) with hopefully showings starting tomorrow. I have the utmost confidence in our team of realtors (who we've worked with before and become friends). We also have our undeveloped land up for sale, though that will take longer. It's incredible just how much work has to be done to get a house ready for sale (photos 2x since the first photographer did a terrible job) and I am very stressed about showings. Not to mention we are in the middle of annual review cycle at work and I have a manager who needs some critical feedback (new report of mine) who hasn't seemed to have had any kind of critical feedback from his manager(s) in the past. All of this chaos has been impacting my exercise and eating. There have been numerous days I've had to skip exercise to work with our realtors or to work morning to night on getting the house ready while working a (more than) full time job. I'm trying my best, but I just have not been able to stay on routine. I spent my lunch time today (when I'd normally exercise on Wednesdays) making phone calls, dealing with earnest money, etc. Tomorrow I will (hopefully) have showings and will need to work from a family member's house with my dog. I probably will have to be tidying up the house in the morning to make it spotless instead of exercising (again). On the eating front I am trying to stick to at least a normal 2x/week partial fasting day (aiming for one 500 calorie meal in the evening and no breakfast or lunch). I haven't been able to manage even one 36 hour fast in the last week and I'm constantly stress-hungry. I'm sticking to my guns on no weekday alcohol, but it doesn't mean I don't daydream of sitting down with a glass of wine on a weeknight to relax. I'm positive I've eaten more calories than normal just from feeling so stressed out. Hopefully this will all calm down and I'll be able to move somewhere with more outdoor space and fresh air. Nearby hiking trails. But I'll be much much further from swimming pools which is making me very stressed out too. I don't want to lose my momentum, but we're trying to move out of the city to somewhere a little more peaceful....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/23/2025
Comments (24)I cannot say I have much to be proud of in terms fitness, exercise, or eating lately. We are right in the middle of selling our house, selling our undeveloped lot, and buying another house. Two of those transactions are connected through contingencies and dates and it's utterly exhausting. The house we're buying has some unexpected issues to address, some of which need to happen before we move in, but the window of time between when we can actually gain access to the new house and must leave the old house is really really short, just a few days. I am swamped at work and feeling major pressure and trying to balance that with having to make so many phone calls to get estimates and schedule inspections and sign addendum after addendum. Not to mention having to leave the house for hours at a time and at the drop of a hat tidy the house up to be in a show state for the buyers. Needless to say I'm STRESSED OUT! I am trying to find some time to exercise, but really it's only a few days a week, not the daily exercise I'm used to. There is a lot of moving around, cleaning, packing, de-cluttering, etc. But very little dedicated exercise time. This week my exercise is going to be derailed by four long days of in-person work events. Many people are in from out of town so I end up being forced to do social activities beyond normal work hours. Not to mention I will not have good access to food that is safe for me to eat (gluten intolerance). They say they provide gluten free food, but I've gotten sick at these before and I hate having to explain that I'd prefer not to eat rather than risk getting sick from a bad caterer or people cross-contaminating the buffet tongs. I am trying to keep up with intermittent fasting (5:2) though I feel like I'm over-eating and over-drinking in general. I can feel my body is losing it's fitness and it's so frustrating. I loved reading all of your positive updates and I hope that maybe in a month I'll be back with some of my own positive updates....See MoreRelated Professionals
