The medical industry has bought up doctors for too long
Comments (11)"I came here looking for herbal advise long ago and Lucy, eric and later brendon ganged up for the medical industry against anything herbal." I think what you're referring to is the thread in which you announced you were dropping all your heart failure meds and wanted to know what herbs to use instead. You were unhappy to be advised to consult your physician before making such a momentous decision. Occasionally some supporter of folklore-based herbalism will post here, complaining about how advocates for evidence-based medicine (herbal or otherwise) are supposedly turning off people and convincing them not to use science to help make decisions about their health. You'd think they'd be happy about that since it would mean converts to their way of thinking, but they're not. More likely, they're concerned that many forum visitors actually do appreciate having good evidence and are open to the idea of complementary medicine instead of having a rigid anti-mainstream medicine position....See MoreGreen wall color of library - igloochick
Comments (4)LOL Hi mom :) Yes schoolhouse I wanted your green. Mine is lighter (and I love it but I want a deep tone for my phone nook). Vegies...humm I'm gonna have to do some searching. It's a lovely tone. I just got back from Alaska :) I was pulling greens there as well for the basement (we had a flood and had to redo it) but the green there is not the right tone for the victorian. Yours feels period perfect :) Bit of blue in it verses a gray green maybe??? Anyhoo, love the tree and the green!!! Thanks for the special thread. I spent the entire trip cleaning house and going to parties so I am finally just getting back on line. Oh mom...I'm home LOL (I do adore my mommy!)...See MoreThe Publishing Industry...and editors
Comments (10)I don't know much about ebooks. But I do know there is a growing trend to "self-publish" one's own work, if one can find the money. There is so much competition now to just get a book published the old fashioned way, that many I know have chosen to go the self-publishing route. I am very surprised to hear about the Canadian postal system. Where I live, mailmen still put letters into one's mailbox, whether on one's door, or in a large box out on the edge of the road, in rural areas. As for newspapers, yes, predictions have been around for over a decade that they will go the way of the dodo or the dinosaur. Even in the 80's, the newspaper decline began, with morning editions merging with afternoon editions, into one daily paper, whereas before, there had been two. Then automation came to newsrooms and many reporters were laid off, as they could not keep up, leaving behind a skeleton staff. To my great surprise, here in the city of Charleston, there are two quite different newspapers which are flourishing. The daily has a lot of features on Civil War History, Revolutionary War history of the area. Despite all the news to be found on line and on the ubiquitous TV, many seem to enjoy an old fashioned newspaper reading with their morning coffee....See MoreLee industries but more affordable
