Thanks Cyrus. I also have lots of oak leaves of a soft variety (quercus lobata) that would probably work as well as a soil containment barrier. These leaves would stay moist if the layer was an inch or 2 thick! I figure to sink these baskets about 6 inches deep for stability. Then I'll see what kind of materials I might use to keep the soil above ground inside. I've got burlap sacks, oak leaves, pine needles and cardboard to choose from so far. I want to keep my costs in this venture to the one dollar I paid for the baskets! Yes, I think these might rust eventually...they have a white coating over the wire, no doubt they were not designed for outside use.

I use the laundry basket when I pot up seedlings from starter trays to plastic cups, run out of space under the lights on my growing bench/table, and move them to my greenhouse. After several days, I remove the basket, and they have adjusted to the sunlight of the greenhouse. When it gets warm enough for them to spend nights outside, I move them to a screen covered shelter I built from storm doors and a sliding patio door screen. They have always made the transition from the greenhouse to this shelter, and from the shelter to my garden without apparent stress.

Enduring, I saw the hafele display at a showroom and remembered it. There is so much I don’t know:-). Glad I could help though.

Is this an application for sorting dirty laundry? It sure looks like a waste of space in the pictures shown. Oftentimes a deeper pull out shelf with a basket extended top to bottom and narrow works better. Then the empty baskets for sorting and distribution into closets and drawers can be stacked. This takes up less room (colors / whites/ darks / athletic clothes for pre treating) than the baskets on shelves. The bottom picture almost shows the application - behind the cabinet doors.
