Comments (5)Is the wall color as gold as it appears in the photos? I can't tell how much is actual color, how much is lighting, and how much is photography, but the whole room seems very yellow/gold. It looks like there is a covered porch or patio outside that limits the natural light, so I would be looking to increase the amount of artificial light, and probably increase the color temperature of the lamps as well (up to 4000 K). Does your sister just want a change or is she specifically looking at what's currently "in" and thinking, "I want that"? If the latter, I'd probably be looking at paint color (grays may or may not be going out, but I don't think golds a poised to come back in for a while. Maybe a greige, or white, or blue). Changing the light fixture would also be a relatively easy update. A new window shade could add some color and pattern. If she's not as concerned about trends, I might focus more on artwork and the arrangement of the plants. I like the plants, but evenly spacing the pots looks a bit uninspired. Decorators like grouping odd numbers of objects (so 3 or 5 rather than 2 or 4). She could change out some of the pots so that they look more cohesive (this would be a way to introduce a new color if she wants)....See MoreI need help with my kitchen being put back together asap!!
Comments (3)if the ASAP is the issue [ not a remodel] then I'd go to your local hardware store....ask the guys because they usually know the local teams and if they are less/more busy....availability etc. There's a bulletin board in our local bigger hardware store and guys leave their business cards etc but I'd ask the fellas working there. I've done the phoning around using yellow pages method..... hit or miss w even getting answers back...talk to whoever you can nearby....See MoreNeed help building a kitchen/bath combo in 120-year old house
Comments (27)Congratulations on your new home--it looks like a wonderful project! The woodworking is beautiful--I love the cabinetry in the "other room"! I'm sure you can find a way to use it perhaps in the kitchen or dining room. That being said, this is definitely a huge undertaking, and not one that is done by crowdsourcing. Find an architect and a good GC, let them see the space and communicate to them your wants and needs. Your budget of $200K may seem large, but it could quickly be used up if you have unseen problems behind the walls or under the flooring. Get a good handle on your costs before you start ANY work, and have a PLAN in place before anything is demolished. Houzz is great for decisions like "should I use oak or maple for cabinets?" or "what counter top material would work best?" Not good for taking control of the whole project. You will be paying your architect and GC, and thus they have skin in the game. Random posters on Houzz (whether pros or amateurs) have no liability for anything that happens in your home. It looks like an awesome project, so keep us informed of your progress....See MoreRelated Professionals
