Fine scratches on Kohler sink
Comments (12)Well, I called the plumber and order the set of grids for the bottom of the sink. While I'm not completely freaked out that it's already showing wear, I would like it to look nice for a while, at least! :) So hopefully the grids will do the trick. I just wish I knew if I caused them (so I'd know what I did wrong) or whether the cleaning crew or workers did it. Wisrose-so far I love the black-n-tan. I had SS before (ugly and dirty looking all the time from hard water and scratches) and although I've only been using it for about 1 1/2 weeks, it seems like not much shows on it. I'm not going to lie and say you can't see water spots, but we have very hard water and water shows everywhere. Kohler recommends just using Windex , 409 or something similar to clean up, so I will discontinue with the brush and just wipe clean with Windex when I'm through with dishes. You do almost HAVE to wipe it down with some glass cleaner to make it shiny after use. Never thought I'd bother with all the little details, but I actually don't mind!! And for what it's worth, I LOVE the smart divide. All my huge pots sit right down in the bottom for filling and cleaning. (HMMMM....maybe that's where the scratches came from! DUH!) a href="http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w312/superchick_album/?action=view&current=000_0151.jpg" target="_blank">...See MoreBroken Kohler Cast Iron Sink
Comments (15)I had a similar situation. The only countertop I have is built over my undermount, Koehler farm sink, "Hawthorne." It's discontinued & they had no touch up kits. Mine was damaged because it sat on my garage floor for 2 years with water softener overflow, crap sitting in it, all kinds of stuff my STBX said didn't matter because it was enamel over cast iron. Well, cast iron rusts & up under the apron, I noticed it was well after it was installed. At the same time I noticed a kind of "slice" into the enamel in the bowl. It took a particular light to see it, but I could. They were actually wonderful. The only thing they could offer was to replace the sink because even with the horrible wear and tear it took due to OUR negligence, it shouldn't have been damaged. I can't afford to have my sink torn out, countertop ruined, just to put a new one in. I know I'm the only one who could see the slice, and the rust is underneath with a tiny bit on the not so evident corner. I told them to send it, though. So I have a brand new one sitting in my barn. At 150 lbs? Not changing anytime soon. How many people have TWO of their $1500 sinks! [LOL] I realize this doesn't help you at all, but I thought you might want to know they do try. Within their boundries, I guess. Good luck with your sink & contractors. It's heartbreaking to find something you just love is broken. Comments (14)I think it is great you want to recycle! This is a super way to be kind to earth and find something you like. There are ways to spruce it up. If you prefer another color to blue now would be the time to get creative. But is this what you really want? Or are you choosing this because of the price? Sometimes I find myself excited about something because of the price rather than the practical purpose. Ask yourself. Do you love it? Is repairing it worth the time, energy, effort, money or would it be better to buy one new? Will saving on this sink give you more cash for _______? Do you love the blue? As for Kohler sinks. I love mine. In fact I am having a hard time giving it up with my reno. I wish there was some way to keep it. So if you are asking about Kohler. I love my sink! My aunt has a red Kohler and loves hers too. I found this on line. Good luck. ~Boxerpups http://www.surface-repair.com/diy-kohler.htm Not sure if you have an Acrylic or Gelcoat unit? You can contact the manufacturer or simply take a piece of sandpaper and gently sand the area that's going to be repaired. If it has an odor, it's Gelcoat; if it's oderless, it's Acrylic. http://www.surface-repair.com/nick-fix-enamel-porcelain-steel-touchup.htm Perfect for small chips & scratches this touch up works as a filler and repair glaze all in one. Comments (18)This is obviously an old thread that's been resurrected but figured I'd give my 2 cents anyway. I just replaced my 20 year old Kohler cast iron sink with a Kohler stainless undermount. I would have gone with another cast iron but the Kohler white was on backorder and I couldn't wait that long. My 20 year old sink was in amazing condition considering the age and abuse it took. I had ordered a special cast iron sink cleaner from Kohler themselves that worked really well at getting utensil scratches out, but we too used a grid which definitely helped. I've also been told by many pros that things aren't "made like they used to be", whether that be flooring, cabinets or cast iron sinks, mainly because of changes in EPA/green standards. The toxic chemicals that were once used to say, varnish floors or coat sinks are no more because of the health hazards they cause their workers and the VOCs/chemicals they emit....See MoreRelated Professionals
