Do you have floating shelves?
Comments (9)The widest I have seen are Ikea's lack shelves, but unless it is a compact DVD player, I'm not sure it would fit (it'd hang over the front edge). Also, think about what you would do with the electrical cord: Do you mind it draping off the side of the shelf? Because floating shelves are put up flush to the wall, so although I guess you could drill a hole in the back of the shelf for the cord, you'll still see the cord, and that won't be a pretty sight. OH WAIT! Unless you have an outlet close above where the shelf will be so you don't see the DVD player plugged in! (I guess it wouldn't cost a fortune to get an electrician to do it, but it seems a waste.) Anyway, the Lacks are 10 and a quarter inches deep....See MorePlease help me with my floating shelves
Comments (9)Seeing your two mock-ups above, I think it would could work either way. IMHO, however, your first instinct was probably better: it does balance better, it prevents a glass corner from sticking out that close to the range, and it allows more breathing room for a behind-the-range feature if you ever plan to add one. Your original order and idea will look better, just in m opinion, since you asked. I'm estimating that those are 15 inch lowers on each side, which would give you a very nice visual "breathing space" on either side of the hood. Oh, and if you win the lottery and want to install a tile or other backsplash from range top, all the way to the ceiling, you'd still be able to do it without removing the shelves. The kitchen looks great so far!...See MoreStruggling to hang floating shelves on plaster wall.
Comments (17)To answer the question of what would happen if you use drywall anchors, this is what happens: Unbeknownst to us, the shelving in the pantry had been incorrectly and sloppily installed by the previous owner and it spontaneously collapsed in the middle of the night not long after we moved in. All the shelving was held up by puny little drywall anchors (some wrapped in tape and then poked into the wall wtf!!) in thick plaster. We did load it up pretty heavily, but did so under the assumption the shelves were properly mounted (we absolutely should not have made this assumption). We got a standing shelf as a replacement. If you can't mount the shelving properly for any reason, go with a standing shelf and don't mess around with incorrect bolts/anchors....See MoreMounting floating shelves on tv wall
Comments (13)All of those shelves are too high and visually detached from the rest of your decor. I would hang shelves much lower. I would also do fewer shelves rather than more. Try one longer shelf on each side. Too many small shelves has the potential to look visually cluttered....See MoreRelated Professionals
