Backyard from scratch - need help with design and slope
Comments (6)I wouldn't remove another thing until I identified everythng you have. You may be taking out choice trees, shrubs and groundcover. Make ample use of the "Name this plant" forum. Easy to post a picture and get answers often in minutes. I would also be very wary of what you're doing with the plant removal and potential grade change. It looks like you have created a bare slope aiming water runoff right for your foundation or cellar. Yes, tree work is expensive but you will get much smarter at it. Many of them can be felled yourself, especially when smaller. Some can be dropped and left for you to cut. If you burn wood, the hardwoods are valuable fuel. The softwoods like the pine you removed are good only for mulch and screening views (stacked). You can learn to prune. You now know the cost of tree removal. Planting new trees can be just as expensive if you hire labor to plant large specimens! It takes years of nurturing to grow a mature tree. So my advice again is to SLOW DOWN. Not to be a wet blanket......See Moreliving room from scratch - sofa selection
Comments (7)The room is open - 2 story with open kicthen in the back. Plans show it as 20' x 17'6" The room from side wall to side wall (left/right) is 20'. Out of which the TV wall is 11' (44" hallway on right and 64" fireplace on left). We were thinking placing a 9' sofa facing the 11' TV wall. That still leaves over 5 foot distance to walls from each side/edge of the sofa. Yes this sofa is deep front to back. (we like depth for comfort and lounging) The room 'depth' (infront of TV wall) is 12' for sure. but you could count it till 17'6" considering where you want the boundary to be since it then flows into kitchen. But I would keep the back of the sofa till 13'6" max....See MoreHUGE living room, from scratch! But so many doors.
Comments (5)In front of your main entrance(s), I would place a nice, warm toned rug to bring in some coziness. I would place a little table next to the door so that you have a place to put your keys, a candle, etc. On the left side of your space is where I see your living area looking best. I would mount the TV on the top wall of the floor plan, and put your comfy couch in front of it. Behind that setup, I would place the music area & desk you mentioned. I know that this is really basic, but I hope that it helps! Also, when you get to decorating, I would highly recommend changing out the light switch plates in your space. It will give the room a very complete, tied together feel. :) https://www.bazarartandgifts.com has some great options. What I love about their products is that they are all handmade!!! Comments (6)There are companies such as California Closets (can't recommend a particular vendor as it will depend on who is in your area) who will come out, measure, talk to you about what you're looking for, suggest solutions and then install. Needless to say this is the most expensive option but could be the most satisfactory if you need help through the whole process. Then there is Ikea and The Container Store. A little less expensive but still quality. You have to install it yourself or have someone do it if you don't have the skills in house. You can also use Closet Maid from HD which is less expensive and you have to figure out your own layout. But they do have a lot of different components that you can mix and match. When we did our master closet last year we used Closet Maid, but my husband is a retired engineer and has above average handyman skills. However, someone with average handyman skills could do it given enough time and patience (as is true of any DIY job). The most important thing before you pursue any of these options is to know what you are going to put in your closet. You need to determine how many inches of short and long hanging space you need and how many shelves, etc. Even if you use a full service operation they can't give you the right solution if you can't quantify what you want at all. Do a purge of your belongings before doing this. No need to spend money to store stuff you really don't need or use anymore....See MoreRelated Professionals
