help with floor tile to match slate shower
Comments (3)I say go for it. I really like that Houzz photo, I've noticed it before and like the clean lines with the rustic warmth of the wood and the slate. I'd do porcelain though, as there are so many great porcelains. They are easier to work with than stone. Porcelain is more forgiving to slight movement of the joist. A stone floor has to be very ridged and may take some extra beefing up of the joist. I had to do that with my joist when I put in a slate floor. Regarding porcelain, I have selected a tile that I'm told has a repeat every 100 tiles. I like that detail. I don't like looking at a floor and seeing many tiles with the same repeat over and over....See Moremarble tile to match Calacatta Regina slab
Comments (4)I have seen some variation in calacatta tile depending on the stores I have gone to, and they all call it calacatta or calacatta gold. You may just want to look around and see if you find something you like that pairs well with your slab. The tile will never be a 100% match to your slab anyway. We are in the process of remodeling our master bath and will be installing calacatta on the counter, floors and as an accent tile in our shower niche...rest of the shower will be white subway. We are also planning on putting calacatta in our hall guest/family bath with the calacatta on the tub/shower surround and on the walls chair rail height. Floors are going to be a wood porcelain tile and the countertop will be a quartz. I think it looks good to break up the marble with another stone/texture....as long as it doesn't get too busy....See MoreCalacatta oro Marble
Comments (9)Hmm, my recollection is that Calacatta Oro is one of the less expensive ones (with Carrara, generally, being the least). That's one of the reasons I had a bit of a heart attack when I learnt the price of my Calacatta (not Oro, but Extra). I think Statuario is considered to be on the top tier. I think, for everything (marble itself, honing, fabrication and installation) my Calacatta Extra was something like $220 a square foot. But marble is most likely a little higher where I live (in the middle of the continent) than other areas (like on the coasts or near large ports). Someone recently wrote in that she'd purchased 5cm and it was screamingly less than mine. Kinda made me wonder, to tell you the truth .... I have 3cm counters and 2cm (slab) backsplash. And the above figure isn't really true because I had to purchase the entire slab(s) -- I own all the remnants. (and there was a considerable amount of the 3cm left over) Not sure this is too helpful, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE our marble so much and even thought it was hideously over our budget I still delight every single day when I see it. I cannot do it right now but mindimoo wrote about her gorgeous Carrara Calacatta marble (or is it Calacatta Carrara?) and its price -- if you do a search for her hopefully you can find her thread....See MoreCalacatta Gold vs Calacatta Oro
Comments (3)Spanish word for Gold is Oro. There are variations in Calacatta Gold depending on where it comes from and when it was fabricated. It is a natural product and not perfectly uniform. I went to many tile shops and all their Calacatta Gold/Oro looked slightly different. You also have to worry about store samples being old and not matching the current batch of stone being mined. Always ask for a sample from the current lots that are available for sale. They might have to order a current sample and you might have to pay for it. Your builder probably picked the tiles based on price and not based on looks or quality. I would never allow a third party to pick my tiles!...See MoreRelated Professionals
