Fluidmaster fill valve question
Comments (0)I have an older Kohler toilet and lately it is taking as long as 20 minutes for the tank to refill after flushing. There is a original Fluidmaster 400A fill valve in the tank. I purchased a new Fluidmaster 400A, but even when totally extended it is about 1 1/2" shorter than the old one. Because of this I cannot position the critical level mark on the new valve so it is 1" higher than the top of the overflow tube as the instructions state it must be. I thought this would be and easy fix. What do I need to do? Thanks....See MoreToilet tank filling more than the waterlevel when flushed
Comments (1)Do you have a 'ball' on a metal arm leading back to the valve or a round float that completely surrounds the tube that the fill valve is in (like a donut) If you have a round ball type, you can bend the arm up or down to make the water level change (bend down to lower the level, up to raise the level). If you have the other type (like a donut), there should be a long plastic rod that has a phillips type head on the top. This rod is outsude of the float. Turning this will raise or lower the float depending on which direction you turn it - try one (which in turn will change the water level). Good luck!...See MoreFluidmaster fill valve question
Comments (2)YOu standpipe may be higher than required. Look on the inside of the tank and you will find a "Water Level" index either printed on or embossed into the ceramic. If you already have a Fluidmaster 400A in all likelihood you do not need a new fill valve. You can simply replace the rubber diaphragm in your existing fill valve. The diaphraqms are only about $1 and a very simple change out however from your description your have already changed the fill valve so we will now move on to the next step to resolve your problem. The top of the standpipe only needs to be slightly higher than that index (abt 1/2"). Flush valves are made to be a sort of universal fit so they make the stand tall enough to meet the needs of the highest tank that the valve mam be installed in. If you happen to have a tank with a bit more length & width it does not require the full height so the standpipe can be cut down and your fill valve should fit fine....See MoreProblem Adjusting Toilet Fill Valve
Comments (2)I never did like that type of fill valve and always replace them with a Fluidmaster valve.(about 8 bucks) Walmart even sells them. Also with the tank lid removed, flush the commode and observe if the tank empties when you flush. Often time the flapper will not stay up long enough to empty the tank. Sometimes you can adjust (shorten the chain) to make the flapper stay up longer....See MoreRelated Professionals
