Carla: Iris
Comments (15)Hi Carla - which site? Flourishing Daylilies? If that's the one, I picked what I wanted and sent her an e-mail. She confirmed that she had them in stock. The prices are lower also than is listed on the actual pics; I believe the correct price is on the PDF file that opens up. You can pay by PayPal or check; she actuall prefers check. I did check her out on the Lily Auction and she has good references. You are going to get 80? Good grief, girl. You're as bad as me. I bought a bunch of blue ones from Schreiners also, but they don't ship til July. I also love the UFO ones; they're different. Once they get established and start multiplying, we'll have to exchange. I have Cleopatra coming; I'm so excited. I mainly ordered rebloomers, but I'm so far north, I don't know if they will rebloom before it gets cold. What are you getting?...See Moreebayer the-iris-cottage BEWARE! from Lochbuie, Colorado
Comments (3)When there are so many on line established sellers, with numerous varieties at very reasonable prises, AND a guarantee it doesn't make much sense to risk buying from an ebayer. Now if someone just wanted a bunch of pretty irises, and did not care about a name, or if they bloomed as pictured, then I guess it would be all right. The heck of it is with those that they have made up names on is that there will be absolutely no pic on line next season under the made up name. No one will be able to dispute the color, since there is no known registered by the made up name. It just burns me up that there are such sellers out there. I called Cooleys this afternoon and made them are that one or more of their pics had been 'used' for someone's gain. Sue Sue...See MoreA collected/ layered style
Comments (21)So I had heard from a few that my sartorial style reminded them of Iris Apfel -- hmm, didn't know about her. Always loved Millicent Rogers, natch, and Dame Edna (who borrows from Iris, I believe), but my favorite style is mine, of course! (wink wink) Then I heard about the Met show, Rare Bird (of Fashion): The Irreverent Iris Apfel. I went, could *totally* see the connection, and bought the book. It is worth a gander! I live in the land of leggings and fleece vests -- having that book in my home reminds me "I am not alone!" Her husband started Old World Weavers, a textile business. She was able to have outfits (inc. matching shoes) made from their fabrics. She also had (has) a great eye for ethnic jewelry, so would put together interesting juxtapositions. Was it the Testy Tastemaker who wrote that having bowls filled with ethnic necklaces was tacky? Can't remember, but I have gobs of amber necklaces in a bowl and I think it is charming. Seeing Iris' silly pieces perched on her silly dog struck such a note of whimsy, such personality. Loved it. chijim -- thank you for uplodading / sharing these pictures!...See MoreSpeaking of Iris Apfel…..
Comments (28)Iris Apfel is known for layering color and texture. So if you want to layer color and texture, in your clothing or jewelry or home decor, you need a lot of things to layer. Which then can get expensive if all the layers need to be purchased new at high end stores. So my comment about thrift was that's another way to get the look, and also since few folks are fans of the look one can often find high end pieces of the look in thrift stores, when the kids sell Mom's old jewelry or clothes or art pieces or other decorative items because they have a very different style or someone downsizes and gets rid of their old stuff or is going with some new trend....See MoreRelated Professionals
