Pics of bathroom so far, what do you think?
Comments (10)Thanks everyone. Brooke and ritamay- I appreciate your thoughts! I think a strip would be more subtle, less expensive and less hassle than the whole back wall. In fact, this wasnt even the glass tile that I wanted. The stuff I wanted was gorgeous, and completely sold out for a couple months. I think that all this brown might overwhelm the bath. Or I could just paint, not do any backsplash and wait. That may be the best route. I need to speak with the contractor and see what he is cabable of. If he cant do this, than it will be paint all the way. dianlo, I am so emotionally and physically exhausted from this project. You are right that I just want to be done. I DREAD going to home depot now, the sight of home/remodeling magazines makes me nauseous, and I am acclimating to the drywall dust/no kitchen/one sink (which is a luxury, actually). The only thing is that the concrete backsplash is not cheap, and I almost think that I could do something better for the money, or not at all....See MoreUPDATE:Can't move forward, is it time to hire interior decorator?
Comments (19)If I recall from your earlier posting, I believe you were concerned that your countertops had a pinkish cast to it? My concern with any green would be that it would emphasize that even further. Can anyone suggest a color to iwantakitchen to deemphasize the pinkish undertones in the counters? Once that is balanced that should help you get a direction to focus. If you want to keep it light and bright what about something like karenforroses' backsplash? Except for your birch lowers, your choices in terms of white cabs and light neutral counters are quite similar. I've long admired her kitchen for the clean and simple palate she used, but no one could ever say it is boring. What I would suggest is to find an inspiration kitchen (via the FKB, mags, etc.) that is similar to what you have so far and use that to help narrow your choices. You may also want to swap out your bulbs in the UC lights to a warm white as they also can have a great influence how your counters, backsplash look. In my kitchen at the moment I have replaced a few bulbs with a warmer white bulb and it's amazing that it gives the backsplash a whole different cast so whatever you choose be sure to check it in your lighting since with the limited windows and northern exposure you will be relying more on artificial lighting. Here is a link that might be useful: karenforroses' kitchen...See MoreNow I'm really scratching my head. . .
Comments (9)I don't see Old World either. Yours is more straightforward than that. I'd go with tone on tone for the backsplash with a feature behind your cooktop. If you look at Shelayne's (in the backsplash thread) and think more yellowish bone or off white, that would be very classic. Your local tile place (try a little high end-ish) can give you some beautiful ideas for behind the stove, even if you duplicate the look elsewhere. You may be able to do cheaper tiles from big box stores and then splurge a little for the feature part from the specialty place. Ebay has some very pretty mosaic type medallions and such on there. Your counter has pattern to it so I would go for a calm field and then a little panache behind the cooktop. What you have already is quite nice. This will be the icing on the cake ;)...See MoreAny suggestions on backsplash?
Comments (11)What are the beautiful countertops? I am following for similar ideas. My cabinets will be painted and light, so a much different look overall, but I'm struggling with whether to repeat the same material for counter and island onto backsplash or go with a tile. Subway tile is so popular, it can be hard to find other ideas. I haven't priced counter/island tops yet but am leaning toward a light (not the super white) quartzite, so cost is an issue in running it up one wall. Can't wait to see what you decide on!...See MoreRelated Professionals
