Home Depot vs flooring outlet center for laminate
Comments (10)I've been pondering that myself. In my experience, the more expensive laminates seem to have longer warranties, and a better selection of nice-looking patterns, textures, grooves and so on. One thing I found is that the $3 and under selection seems to be double and triple-planked on each board, i.e. you'll have two or three strips on each board, and where they fit together, it's obviously a laminate install, because no flooring installer would place three boards alongside each other without staggering the ends. A single-planked install looks more like real wood (it may also be a bit more work). I installed the $2.50/sq-ft stuff in my home office, a small room used only be me, where the flooring is not a showcase thing. In my basement, where the flooring runs through a hallway and a guestroom, I want to have a nicer "single-planked" look, and am looking at a pricier $4.50/sq-ft solution. My local Home Depot does seem to have some of the pricier stuff, but it's in the special order section, and the selection isn't as good as in the flooring places. I was considering a $3.79 special-order from HD....See MoreHow to move outlets
Comments (4)Another issue will be where the existing wires are coming from to those boxes; there can be many configurations. The wires could be coming from below, in which case you may have the necessary slack to have the wires reach the new location, or they may be coming from the top and won't reach to the new locations (and it's not legal to simply splice wires in the walls). Your husband is likely correct that the wires also go laterally through the studs; and they may be stapled at various points within the walls. You also don't mention whether the outlets are all on the same wall. If not, they could be coming around corners, going over doorways, etc., all making it impossible to pull the wires to new locations. I've moved receptacles before and it typically involves at least some pulling and fishing of new wires, and a little or a lot of drywall removal. In short, this could be a routine task, or a quite complicated one, and you won't know until the electrician starts investigating....See MoreBathroom vanity junction box not centered
Comments (18)If this is on a partition wall, not a supporting wall, the errant stud is doing nothing but holding up drywall. It can still do this even if you hack into it and move the box....See MoreAdding outlet box AFTER backsplash??
Comments (9)Mark: Yes, during initial stages of construction my electrician made sure there would be a way for power to island when the time came. The sides just doesnt seem feasible, for lack of room. Thanks. Kudzu: It def doesn't appear to be an ready task. The no guarantees thought is what is why I hesitate. I would have to pony up regardless if it works or not. Thanks. Mongo: Sounds like you know. Those tools are specialized. My contractor ended up using most of hubby's tools. I will have research the cost o purchase as well. Thanks. Sophie: Alot of times I thought things looked odd and would say so. Often being looked with dismay causing numerous heated debates with hubby. Super stressful. Chicahoans: What a great option! I had not thought about that. Would it be possible to in include a switch on a plugmold? (to control dishwasher). Thanks. Kudzu: The main idea is to.have a switch for dishwasher at left, and a power outlet at far right. I have this crazy idea that maybe a box can be mounted for both items inside the top of the side cabinets. Thanks. Leisa: Thanks...the hidden boxes sound like a good solution. We do have shelving space on each side.Thanks....See MoreRelated Professionals
