The cabinets are the best part of the space. Leave them alone. It's the floors that need refinishing to provide contrast. They are too pink and too light. Add lighting. And reconfigure the refrigerator thing. The cabinets next to the door took away your breakfast area, without actually providing you useful counter space and store in the kitchen area, so you might as well use the wall opposite the sink to move the fridge there and build out a surround. Etc. But that opens a big can of worms. Probably less expensive than new counters and professionally painting the cabinets though. That's easily 20-30K just for that.

What condition are the cabinets in? I too think that painting the room and getting new counters might make more sense than painting the cabinets.

I am on board with the rest - no need to paint the cabinets. They just are not working with the stark blue white walls.

Maple looks great with so many colors. What is your favorite color? What will be your accent colors in the bordering rooms?

Dark colors that make the cabinets pop or more subdued colors that give you a more natural feel.

Have you heard of the concept of whole home color pallets? Basically using a color scheme that flows throughout the home. Usually using about 5 colors (3 colors, a neutral and a white) to tie adjoining rooms together under one scheme.

I also love your current cabinets. They are are beautifully neutral so you could go in so many different color directions with accessories. I’d start with art you love that includes the color of your cabinets so that it feels cohesive, then use some of the other colors in the art around the kitchen. I’d also look for a light fixture that brings in more personality.

You appear to have a big, empty wall on the left that could accomodate a large, framed poster. That may be a good place to start injecting the creams and blues you like.

That rug that ffpalms shared would look perfect , at least to my eyes, and on my monitor with very little other changes..

You mentioned blues, as a color you would like to have. Look back up at Jennifer Hogans posts of pictures. The third one down is a bluish color and looks really good with your cabinets and floors. The cabinets look very nice, and I wouldnt be painting them. I agree, new counters would be nice, and make sure you get them without that 4 inch backsplash your current ones have, if you intend to add a full backsplash behind them.
