Need design help on small awkward kitchen design
Comments (30)I always try to cite the NKBA guidelines, because they are standard for a functional kitchen, and it's better to know all the rules, before we start to bend them. ;) In my own kitchen, on two sides I have narrower aisles than recommended, but it works OK for my layout. My DW opens into a long aisle, not against the island, and the island overlaps the fridge and range by 50% each, so there is step-back space in front of each appliance. Behind the seating I have base cabinets and uppers, providing more space at shoulder height than vertical elements would. My DW is in the prep space between the sink and range, but due to an entry on the other side of the sink, that couldn't be changed. One of the advantages to an island is a second egress--if someone is blocking a path on one side, another person can go around. For instance, if two people are sitting at your island on the long side, anyone entering from the back door can cut through the work aisles, rather than try to squeeze by the second seat. Of course, then you have someone cutting through the work zones, but that might not happen often, if ever....See MoreBathroom Remodel: Need design help to fill "empty space"
Comments (10)Well it depends on the size of the transom. A traditional transom will not. if it is a larger and or operable transom possibly. A lot depends on your ceiling height as well as the outside elevation with that. If light is your goal you can do both if it works on the outside elevation. Also you can do a regular size window inside a shower. Or two smaller square windows.......the possibilities are endless but I try to not elimate existing windows where possible especially when it gives the opportunity for function and light. lower cabinets although tall ones.....i would go counter height with window above....See MoreNeed design help with odd bathroom floorplan
Comments (7)Thank you CDR and Norwood for your suggestions and feedback! The toilet room is bigger, I used Ikea's design template and for some reason their sizing is off. The way it is now, with it being a room with the door removed, it just looks awkward, like very clearly there should be a door there and isn't. So we're just exploring some options on what to do with the walls to make it less awkward. It's also a 70's house where there are just too many walls in general, so we're trying to find a way to make it more open. The wall to the right of the entrance will become a half wall or even just glass around the shower, currently it's really closing the bathroom upon entrance. However the wall between shower and toilet cannot be shortened since that's where plumbing for shower is (ie showerhead) so keeping that wall means the toilet is behind a wall. So our option is to either open the side somewhat, or remove the side walls completely, or keep as is. I'll try to find a way to do draw it out more to scale, it's much longer in reality than my mock up suggests....See MoreWork office- need design help on new space!
Comments (16)Blue and Teal go together and work well with earth tones. The closeup of the carpet shows threads of blue and teal so of course! There are many shades of teal, so I agree, get your furnishings and decor first, then pick a wall color that goes with them and the carpet....See MoreRelated Professionals
