omg - i have variegated frit cats--thanks, cathy!
Comments (20)Cathy, you are so fortunate because you get those gorgeous Great Spangled Frits up where you live. We are too far south of their range. They see them in the NE part of our state, but not down this far. Linda, I've never had them on my P. incarnata. I've seen them flying in my yard, but never found any cats. It could have been I just missed them in the Gulf Frit deluge, though, too. I need to find another P. incarnata, but Precure hadn't gotten any of them in yet, and didn't know if they would. I imagine I can find one at TLC or possibly Horns or Satterlee's, but they're so darned expensive! These Blue Violets sure did attract them. Today I saw a HUMONGOUS Question Mark in the front yard. Had to be a female. Hope she left some eggs on the Hops in the front yard. I already have some in the back yard. Also saw a Red Admiral as well. I keep checking my False Nettle......... I'm almost convinced I should try it in pots. They are supposed to be hardy, but maybe my drainage wasn't good enough or something. Who knows. I've got to get my containers cleaned out, but I've been so busy trying to plant things. Susan...See Moreomg!!! bugs on my datura--really weird ones
Comments (2)Kittee, take a look at the links I've listed and see if any of the insects match what's on your datura. If it is scale carefully scraping it off even though it might be difficult would be the most direct route to take with the fewest risks. If you do scrape it off, be careful not to dispurse the insects inside the scale when the shell is removed. It would be good to follow up with an insecticidal soap spray or light oil spray afterwards just in case there are eggs or you miss some. You can also try swabbing the scale with rubbing alcohol, but that might not penetrate the shell and get to the insects underneath. If it is scale, you definitely want to get rid of it before the young (crawlers) hatch and spread to other parts of the plant. A light oil product like Pyola (with pyrethrins) or Ultrafine oil might also do the trick. Oil insecticide products work by suffocating the insects. The pyrethrins in the Pyola product are an effective insecticide, and are organic. You can get the insect controls I've mentioned online at Gardens Alive or similar sites. There may be a chance of some leaf drop or damage from an insecticidal soap or oil spray, so keep that in mind too. Hope this info helps. Good luck. http://www.ext.vt.edu/departments/entomology/ornamentals/part1.html http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/orn/scales/green_scale.htm Here's a link if you can take a photo of the insects, they might be able to ID them for you: http://bugguide.net/node/view/6/bgimage...See MoreOMG - it's just pure torment!
Comments (1)Wow! Selling them to your friends. I give mine away, wish they would buy them! No, actually this way I can make mostly what I want. Should I expect all my roses are dying ?'
Comments (8)I think you did the best thing you could by trying to water it in to dilute it more but alas have no experience with a detergent water accident. I will say I accidentally sprayed roundup on a few things and while the foliage was ugly for a while it still didn't completely die so I would think your plants may be ok in the end and grow out the damage if any. Roses are extremely resilient plants I must say! What detergent was it? The reason I ask is because I had a rose planted in a spot next to my driveway where water would pool and stand around it and that water was from car washes and the plant is perfectly fine. It took a whole summer of this water and abuse. The rose is actually in my "is this Westerland" post and is doing quite alright despite the abuse!...See MoreRelated Professionals
