100% cotton, do not bleach. Why? Why? Why?
Comments (11)I think one of the problems is you can't trust the 100% cotton label any more. I've used chlorine bleach for years on whites and the only time there has been a problem with something yellowing is when I think they've surreptitiously blended polyester into cotton. Poly is very prone to yellowing when bleached. You know - those t shirts that have a little lycra in them (too stretchy for 100% cotton) or sheets that you can actually get a shock from or see sparks when you raise the top sheet in the dark. 100% cotton doesn't shock or spark, so I know there is unmarked poly in lots of things these days. I have a front loader with a bleach dispenser and it only uses about a tablespoon or two of bleach per load....See MoreHey Friends, what kind of pots do you use and why?
Comments (40)Hobby, you got it exactly right :) The larger the pot, the larger the holes should be. I imagine the bottom of my pots having holes that are many and also almost half of the area of the bottom should be the drilled holes. With potting soil that I use, I have to have that ratio for drainage holes, otherwise my plants will be in trouble in the winter months. Also if the bottom of the pot has "peaks and valleys", if you look inside the pot and see "valleys" you have to make more holes there, becase the water gets trapped in those areas and its very bad for the roots in the winter time (see the strategically placed holes in my blue bucket in the picture I posted above :))...See MoreDo you use a dry shampoo? Why, when, which?
Comments (17)Dry shampoo is for oil control and sometimes a boost for volume on 2nd or 3rd day hair that the individual doesn’t have time to wash or is trying to delay washing. The ‘no poo’ bunch (people who don’t use a traditional shampoo in favor of home concoctions or co-washing which is only using conditioner to wash the hair) often talk about going through a period where nothing is helping the greasiness as they attempt to re-acclimate their scalp to more normal oil production after daily washing had been amping it up for quite a while. Many give up, but some swear that after time, it gets better and they continue to no-poo and find that dry shampoo helps in the way the product is intended to. Fine hair (even if you have a ton of it) will need washing sooner no matter what, it’s just the way that hair texture wants to be regardless of any interventions. I don’t like most of the drugstore ones I’ve tried, tresemme made my hair tangle and knot up like nothing I’ve ever seen before and I’ve had hair brushes literally get stuck and had to cut them to get the things out after my stylist untangled as much as she could so all I had to do was switch my part for a few months while my hair grew enough to switch back. Batiste is okay but I can’t muck with additional styling afterwards or the top goes flat and the static goes wild and I’m shocking or being shocked for the rest of the day/night. I knew a girl who used baby powder when she had applied too much hair smoothing oil and didn’t have time to start all over with a wash, dry and style. She was a very light blonde so it didn’t look noticeable after a light brushing to distribute it through her hair. Mostly the stuff makes my head itch. I wash every other day, sometimes if I won’t be going anywhere I’ll only wash every 3rd day. I suppose one could dry their hair after sweating and then apply dry shampoo, but I wouldn’t just put it on hair that is wet or damp from sweat and then try to dry it with a blow dryer, might as well just do a real wash in a hurry. Not easy with long hair, or wavy/curly, much less long wavy/curly hair....See MoreWould you use your builder again? Why or why not
Comments (34)Would we use our builder again? Absolutley. Has everythng been perfect? No, of course not. But having gone through a scenario as a tennant dealing with the landlords contractor (landlord = inlaws) that almost tore the family apart, this has been a walk in the park. In addition we are bulding the house 50+ miles away while working full time jobs. So sure, there have been a couple of hiccups. But I think what matters is that you find an eithical/reputable builder. We did, and have been very fortunate. We both had/have high expectations, and when you can communicate fairly and honestly, it goes a long way as well. I'll never forgot one little thing that came up in the beginning, and that was I had to send a large check on the build, after the close on the land and subsequent construction loan. I asked him, do you want a bank check? He said, we're about to build a house together....if I we can't trust each other, we have problem! We are at the inspection stage, preparing for the move. We hope this is it, and will be here for the duration. But if we ever did build again, having learned the things we've learned, I'd love to build again with the same contractor....See MoreRelated Professionals
