Design Dilemma Living Room Home Decorating

Help with Decorating Open Living Space

I need help decorating my open cost of living room. My plan for the wall behind the fireplace is to paint and accent wall Granite Peak by Sherwin-Williams. (Blue gray). The wall is about 50 feet long and leaves down to the entry door of the home. A short upright piano is going under the first window. I have a lots of wall space to play with and would love some opinions and help! Thanks in advance!

More photos and scale floor diagram with windows, doors / doorways. Is this an electric fireplace that is movable? Is there another plan for TV placement and credenza? Any other furniture planned for the room? Nice large room.

A ceiling light is not optimal for a living room (looks like a hospital). If you insist on keeping that, at least put it on a dimmer. At the very least, start with a table lamp in each corner at chest height. Educate yourself about warm and cool lighting, as well as lighting in general.

@Jennifer K I was treating the charcoal as a neutral, but, now when you said it, it does feel a bit weird having two strong dark colors (navy and charcoal), so I think I will go with the charcoal only. Coral actually doesn't look bad at all! Old brick fireplace was my husbands wish, I like it too, but my problem is that I don't know how to handle it, since I am not at all "red person", and I am really bad in decorating with red. this room has similar windows to yours. look at how nice the darker paint color on the wall sets them off. Perhaps you could do just the living room area walls a darker shade.bring in some drapery panels. you really need to get a media console for under the tv. if you can't afford to buy a new one, look on craigslist or yard sales for a vintage credenza, buffet or dresser, and paint it white. (or if in good shape, and walnut, leave it natural), see how this one is pictured? :get a tall plant for the corner, place a chair next to it and your tv, the media console (heck, even Ikea has ones you can use) and then look at how they have those white drapes. that will make that part of your room look fine. here,,,console, art, plants, chair lamp, pouf,,,just try and find things like this that go with your decor. your pillow are sad. can anyone sew? if not, just get some pillow covers for the ones your have. the cost is 10-15 bucks. or spring for some new, colorful pillows. get a tall plant to put in the corner near your desk. you need some life. to the left of it, look at garage sales or craigslist for a larger book shelf. Paint it a glossy white or whatever color you have in there as an accent. Learn how to DIY better yet, you have the perfect little nook area for a built in desk/shelving. this is super easy to build, would look great, and offer you way more storage as a work space area. just look up, "built in desk nook' or 'built in desk area'. you could even find a second hand desk, paint it, and build shelving around it. The dining room needs a large piece of art in place of where the mirror is. find a canvas art piece (or paint your own) that you like that eats up a good portion of that wall. put the mirror somewhere else. as of right now, you have no life or movement in your rooms, and very little color. look at pictures of rooms you like and see what you can use in your own rooms.

Where and how do you access the sofas? It looks like there is barely any room to walk around them to go sit down. And from where do you enter? Is that big round thing on the right supposed to be a hanging lamp from ceiling? If so, that space needs to be utilized. Or is it a round table?? Are those windows next to it? And the dark square shape in front of kitchen counter - is it a chair or... what? First, since your kitchen counter and wall to the patio are both angled, could you angle your loveseat and place it where the TV is now? Then, we'll just have to help you figure out where to put TV and big sofa, haha. You do have a bit too much furniture for this space, if the dimensions are scaled correctly. Can you sell the sofa and get a smaller one? These pieces look gigantic in that space. Photos of room would be helpful. I can see this image big and fine on my laptop, but room pics would help.

You can any get custom shades in that exact width and height. The more budget friendly option would be to do Cellular shades. Lowe’s has in stock Levolor cellular shades that come big enough to cover the whole window. They also have custom special order options too if you want something other than cellular shades. Lowe’s also has faux wood blinds in stock that are that size too!

Looks like an electric fireplace. You already know that FP doesn't complement the leather, contemporary sectional you have selected for the room.

The room needs a large TV screen and LINEAR FIREPLACE

I'd remove the FP and use a long linear storage unit/console or built in shelving under the tv. If you want a fireplace, built it out with shelving on the sides so you an get the MCM look that would work with your house and sofa.

Also, try to put the piano between the windows if you can, as drafts can throw it out of tune in a hurry!

Thank you all very much for the recommendations and ideas! This is one big room that comprises the kitchen, living room and dining space. Definitely need a linear fireplace or console and place the piano in another location.

Really there is no way to get help without a to scale floor plan . Do it on graph paper to make it easier . Show every window, doorway where those lead . Every measurement clearly marked posted here in jpeg format in a comment DO NOT start another post. All things related to this post now dealt with here in comments . I see no kitchen I see giant sectional but it only really seats 4 and only 2 who are really comfy. I need a ton more info and thta plan before even trying to guess how to use the space

Oh wow! Much smaller than I thought. I see the bigger tv. I’m assuming it replaces the one there. I would get a linear fireplace for sure. Measurements are needed for anymore help.
