need ideas for super-cheap kitchen update
Comments (37)I am in awe of the progress and the difference, kdw72697 !!! And your Little Helpers are just toooo precious! Let us know as soon as you decide what you are going to do with the track lighting, and any other changes, of course! :) THIS is my kind of Topic....anything to do with the words "Super-Cheap", and I'm there. Fantastic Suggestions throughout this topic and I'm so grateful you all posted them! Everyone who posted pics....THANK YOU! I am always on the look-out for new ideas, inspiration, anything "budget-minded" to freshen up my own home. The colors you've used, the kitchen set-up...all ideas that motivate and inspire me! Igloochic, Your home....always an inspiration at every turn...especially since I use paint and paint techniques to create something a little nicer than the norm (the 'norm' that I can't even afford!) ....I've used your home pics more than once to get me motivated. Here's my latest budget project...maybe someone else can benefit from it in their own budget-minded kitchen. Real Travertine Tile Trim was NOT in the budget but the discounted/discontinued tiles we purchased looked so nekkid without something on top (the discontinued tiles didn't have bull-nose or anything close to matching). A length of cheapy wood chair rail molding, some left-over stucco in the bag from an earlier window re-do and my paints and some good sealer..... (I DID resize these pics to make them smaller...I hope it worked!)...See MoreLong, dark, low, depressing hall wall color suggestions?
Comments (32)Trees! That would be fun. I had been thinking of a spot to stick up that Cole & Son "Woods" paper, but a smaller pattern might work better with so many doors. And grasscloth. I had looked into it for my entry hall and living room and elsewhere (perfect cover for 50s paneling, right?) and was under the impression that it just wasn't durable enough. I'd love to be wrong. Or find a good faux grasscloth. WHERE does one go to look at wallpaper in person these days? Seriously, are there any more wallpaper stores? You all have not made this easier at all by giving me so many options I hadn't considered! So thanks! :) Do we all agree that the can lights must go, or is replacing them with ones that actually illuminate good enough? With the furnace intake and an attic access panel and four of the recessed lights, I think that the ceiling is sort of busy and making the light fixtures more substantial might help distract from that. Really, this hall isn't awful. I'm putting off the rest of the house because this is actually manageable. Actually I was planning on doing the entry hall which is well-lit and also brown and thought I needed to carry the treatment into this hall which branches off from it but there is a door. I don't have to match! Gee. I need to focus. :)...See MoreMy walls want to be orange.ish
Comments (39)I normally don't post on the house side but I saw your post on the most recent posts on the side and it caught my attention! I say go for it! I paint my walls whatever color I want. Everyone told me I'd hate my bathroom being navy blue, that it'd be too dark and seem small but I absolutely love it. You just have to pick colors you want. If you decide to sell your house someday, you may need to repaint but that's an easy fix and not something that stops me from painting. I've stopped trying to make my house like ones in the magazines. I've got a navy bathroom, a bright apple green dining room, and then my living room and bedrooms are nice neutral beiges and greys. Some rooms I like that bright pop of color, but in my living room its beige, brown, olive green with pops of blue. When we bought our house, the mudroom had paneling with log cabin print on it, and when I was painting it my mother in law told me I needed to paint it white, that it'd look terrible in the pale blue I'd picked out. That just made me want to paint it blue out of spite. So I did, and I love the blue. It's so peaceful. Anyways, paint it peach! Paint it orange! Good luck :o)...See Morebold wallpaper
Comments (42)Ha ha. I know, I know. But now that I’ve thought about it, I do agree it’ll be too dark in the entire dining area. Light is a luxury in NYC apartment window-less areas, so I need to keep things light and bright (it’s the one design thing my husband cared about- everything else is in my hands). Thanks all for indulging me!...See MoreRelated Professionals
