Living Room Ideas
Hi! Been living this house for a year now and haven’t done much because it’s quite a lot and overwhelming. So the plan is to tackle one room at a time this year. The lucky winner is this very stale living room.
We watch tv (not much into reading as a family) so this room will serve as our family room / entertainment room. The home is small. I have two littles so must think very strategic about the space.
My desired theme is somewhere along the lines of Modern Organic / Rustic / Wester. Where I can mix rustic with new and a little vintage too. We live on a farm own horses, goats, chickens so the idea of Western / Rustic is engraved in us and I’d like to reflect that in our home but simply DON’T have the brain power or creativity to put it all together. I have plenty of ideas and pictures which inspire me but don’t even know where to begin. I’m sure this will be a long project as I’d like the space to feel cozy and warm and for that I may have to find very special pieces but that’s okay! Anywho, I thought I’d give this a go and hope to get the engine running with this blank canvas of a space I’ve got.

Comments (6)Measure out your space to see how much usable space you will have for the furnishings. A sectional might or might not be a good option for you. As you shop gather dimensions of pieces you like then use tape and place it on the floor so you can see how it will look space wise. As mentioned above pick your focal point. Comments (16)I like your rug, but it should be a larger size so the front legs of the couch and chairs are sitting on it. I think a glass kidney table would open up the area in front of the fireplace and allow you to see more of the rug. I wasn’t able to get the angles of the table and chairs right in this mock-up, and I’m not certain the right chair would impinge on the traffic path too much. I think it would look best to have both chairs face the couch, but that would entail mounting the TV on the wall opposite the fireplace. That may look odd, though, and it is not ideal to have a traffic path in front of the TV. I’m assuming the couch cannot move back about a foot without blocking access to the door. Is that right? An alternative to a coffee table would be a couple of poufs that could be used to put your feet up, or to use with trays when needed....See Moreliving room idea

Comments (10)Not sure where you live, but there are some great finds on FB marketplace for furnishings in some areas. Leery of bedbugs on upholstered furniture, but I guess there are ways to make sure you're not getting them. Ikea is a good inexpensive option and people seem to be really happy with their slipcovered pieces. I would also get a nice inexpensive rug. There are so many online sites with great choices and a few you can use their visualizer to place the rug in your room to see how it will look. I'd probably put the most money in a comfortable reading chair, like a recliner. So many of them these days don't look like recliners and are very comfy. Not sure why faux wood blinds or if you mean venetian style/mini blinds or roll down shades? Whatever you get, I would make sure they are opaque at night (solar shades are not opaque), since you will be a woman alone. Dogs are good, but I'd want to be sure no one can see in from outside. 13 days agoFirst things first: get a long low console in a color/style you like and set the tv on it or just above it. Make sure it’s wider than the tv. Like this random rustic style console.

Agree with @littlebug Zone 5 Missouri about a console. Look at IKEA Besta systems. You can configure it to your needs. With little ones some storage might be good. Although the picture doesn't show much, I think a much larger more colorful rug would help.
Then use a color or 2 from the rug for your accents.

12 days agolast modified: 12 days agoWithout doing a floor plan to scale, defining your room’s and family‘s needs, narrowing down the look you want, deciding on a color scheme and finally how it will influence the other rooms as you move forward, it will be overwhelming.
When doing a to-scale floor plan, try couch under window and tv/above a console on opposite wall. Seating options will increase and you’ll have a more congenial and cozy room, which was your wish.
Decide on a color scheme and the ”look“, as organic/rustic/western is too broad and have different attributes. Look on line (Houzz, Pinterest, Instagram) and search with a more exact criteria to see the style differences. I included “organic/rustic” for instance when searching. Be sure you define before purchasing and take your time.
