Favorite Heirloom Cherry (Or Grape) Tomato This Year?
Comments (6)My all time favorite and the only one I grow now is Golden Nugget. I tested a lot of heirloom tomatoes and these grow in semi shade, are abundant and don't split when the rains come. Oh yes, they taste great too. Mine actually run about an inch. A few are larger. I have grown them in pots as well as in the ground. They need a little staking. Here is some info. You can get them at many places: Open pollinated. 60 days. Determinate. Compact 24 plants support a heavy crop of early bright-golden 1.5" fruits. These garden gems have a rich well-balanced flavor. Most fruits are seedless and resist cracking. A prolific and decorative plant for the home garden. Developed and released by Dr. James Baggett Oregon State University, Dept. of Horticulture....See MoreWhat is your favorite and least favorite flower to grow?
Comments (9)mla20fus, my favorite flowers are perennials, so I don't have to plant them every year. I also love Holihocks, (sorry, every plant needs loved by someone :),especially by an old outhouse or shed. I plant very few annuals, but I truely love breadseed poppy, especially the bright red ones. They bloom with the Shasta Daisy and really make a show. The daisies were all volunteer, but now that I know how they look with my poppies, they can stay. I also plant gypsoia (sp?) and moss rose every year, they too are worth the effort. Are your fall Asters the deep purple ones?...See MoreFavorite Cherry Tomato
Comments (12)Matt's Wild Cherry is very flavorful, almost like a SweetTart. The fruits are very small, and they get a little split as soon as you pull the stem off, so it may be best for grazing while working in the garden. Also, it seems more prone to self-sowing. If you pick a special place to plant it the first time, you may not have to plant it again for years. Tommy Toe is a good sized cherry that has a good old fashioned tomato flavor, with good productivity. Blondkopfchen is highly prolific with sweet-tart flavor. It is so rampant, though, that it is a bully to its neighbors. I haven't tried any that you mentioned....See MoreWhat are your favorite tomato varieties?
Comments (11)Totally Tomatoes doesnÂt have Marianna's Peace. If youÂre interested in that one, which is a very fine tomato, try these sources. They have a lot of other great varieties too. Marianna's Heirlooms http://www.mariseeds.com/2005catalog/pinks.html Sand Hill Preservation Center http://www.sandhillpreservation.com/Seeds.htm note -- this is a small 1 or 2 person operation, so it might take a while to get your order. If you need something right now, order it from somewhere else. It is however a very good reliable source, and they do have a lot of good varieties that are hard to find anywhere else. Tomato Growers Supply http://www.tomatogrowers.com/beefsteaks2.htm Victory Seeds http://www.victoryseeds.com/catalog/vegetable/tomato/tomato_pink.html Your question about good early varieties comes up regularly on the "Growing Tomatoes" forum. You can find lots of good suggestions by trying keywords such as 'early' in the search feature of that forum. There is an active thread there right now called "Favorite Early tomato?" Here is a link that might be useful: Favorite Early tomato?...See MoreRelated Professionals
