Decorating above an off-centered bed with a bold duvet print
Comments (7)Thank you everyone for the fabulous feedback and ideas!! @Manon- love the way you incorporated a shelf & photos together, and B&W was definitely one idea I'd thought about. Great idea about putting lamps on the shelf as a space saver, too! @Oliviag55- great call on sleeping in the room a few times to get a feel for what it needs. I think I currently avoid it bc I feel bad I haven't decorated it yet-- time to face my fears! :) And totally true that what folks notice is above the bed and at the foot...thanks for that! @Olychick- thank you SO much for these photos. I love them all and it gives me a much better sense of what decorations above an off-centered bed would look like. The first pic is perfect and gives me a great vision to work toward. And, never would have thought about doing an accent wall in a more neutral color, but that is such a great idea!! I've got a color in mind and will definitely think about that! Thank you so much everyone!! I'll definitely post an after pic once I make some progress on the room!...See MoreHelping with wall decor above sofa.
Comments (7)KW's suggestion of a mockup is a *very* good one! While eye at mid-art is a good general rule, exceptions can be made. For example - I have some art at eye-level while I'm sitting on the sofa, or on the toilet. Some art can be hung high to cover a large wall, etc. It's just a rule of thumb. For *most* of the art around *my* house, the art is eye-level to ME, at 5'3". My occasional tall guests might be looking at art slightly above the mid-point, but it's my house and I'm the one looking at the art the most. Hang the art at different heights and judge what *looks* best. Generally, over a sofa, you want the art to connect with the sofa - not so much with the ceiling above....See Moreideas for entry-centered or off centered decor?
Comments (7)thanks for the comments! the table is very narrow and the length (about 65") covers the baseboard cover (ugh).. Although there is a center pretty light fixture, the lamps provide the atmosphere, especially at night.... Been looking for photos of similar stairs; can anyone provide some PICS with oen larger lamp, etc? so I can visualize a less symmetric styling? thank you so much....See MoreHow to decorate my den with a large wall behind an off-centered couch
Comments (22)I considered everyone's ideas and suggestions and decided to rearrange the room as such, which looks much better. The pictures make the room look cluttered, but it is not. There is still so much space. My daughter was in awe when she first saw it. I still need to raise the curtains, purchase a neutral color rug, wall art, pillows, lamps, and plants and play around with the other items in the room before it is complete. Despite it not being finished, I am delighted with the new layout. It is warmer, cozier, and inviting. Let me know what you think. Good, bad, and ugly. I am not a decorator, so I am always open to constructive criticism. Thank you for taking the time to help me figure out how to rearrange and decorate this room. I recently purchased my home and will definitely need assistance, as you can tell. LOL Be on the lookout for more posts....See MoreRelated Professionals
