Two or three pendants over new kitchen island?

last modified: last month

I've read numerous posts on island pendant number, size and style, but our island is not the typical symmetrical island.

This is a new kitchen with a 10' x 50" island, and wrap around seating on one side (the "social zone").

The island is centered relative to the range wall and we'll have a range hood (more "statement" than the drawing). Our ceilings are 10' high.

I have been assuming we would hang TWO medium-size pendants centered relative to the island itself, using the countertop actual dimensions.

However, because of the wrap-around seating on one end, the "activity length" of the island is at least 12" longer longer, when you include people seated at the "social zone" end.

Therefore I wondered if having 3 pendants would be better, so one of the three is a little closer to the "social zone." The center light would be in line with the range hood, and the other two spaced from there.

I appreciate your advice on two vs three pendant lights, and what size would look good.
