Roof over hang to long.

I want to add a room to the same side where the widow is. Problem is the Roof has a very long over hang. The room I want to add would be the same size as home is now maybe not as wide. But I need it as only as it is now. Would I have to completely change the whole roof.. Please give me some ideas to change this ugly roof.

Thanks for the experience. It's another reminder that soil management with composts is about building for the future as opposed to short term benefits derived from chemical fertilizers. There's always a lot of questions about 'when is the compost ready'. I'm not so fussy and add organics to the garden from the compost whether it's 'finished' or not. I want my compost to keep breaking down over the long run (as you state, decades). Your worms are a great barometer of a rich, organic soil. The smells of the manure, etc. are a rich reminder of your youth. As you write: 'lovely' smelling. What a personal and wonderful legacy to have. My smell trigger is old canvas and rope: reminders of those magical camping trips from decades ago.

In the past I have grown yard-long beans along the back row against my wooden fence and allowed them to run up strings attached to the fence by nails. This next growing season, I plan to use containers attached to the top of the rence to grown them down, instead of up. My current plan is to use gallon milk jugs with the shoulder opposite the handle cut out. I will run a wooden rod through the handles and suspend the jugs on the rod by attaching to ends of the rod to the fence posts. I will drill five 1/2 inch holes in the bottom of the jugs; place rocks in the bottom of the jugs to prevent loss of soil; and fill the jugs with my potting soil mix of 1 part garden soil, 1 part top soil, a cup of worm castings, and 1/2 cup of vermiculate. I will plant 3 seeds per jug and train the plants to trail over the sides. When the plants reach the soil I will prune them to prevent exposure to deseases. When I posted this on the vegetable gardening site, I was advised that 3-4 seeds was excessive; that worm castings were not suited for beans; to use potting soil vice my soil mixture; and that the jugs would probably deteriorate during the season. I chose not to build a potting box due to the cost of durable wood such as cedar or redwood. Any advice on an alternative to the jugs or the expensive wood?

I'd say your current one is too wide. since you have lower ceilings, I'd go for something a bit smaller. General rule is 30" apart. If you like the 29" size, that's your call, but I'd do something at least a 1/3 smaller (than the current one) here is the one style you mentioned. However, what is the style of your dining room? right now, I don't see anything in there that would compliment this modern style of lighting. Your table is somewhat generic, the chairs I don't even know, the family style bench and whatever those two console things are hanging out in the vicinity! Lets get an idea of the look you're going for first, then decide on your pendants. I like his lights in a room done like this: (this would work well for your table) or, how about his linear light fixture? takes the measuring work out of your hands I really like this look w/the dark wall, white cabs, simple chairs, dark table. I like this one too if you prefer to have the larger pendants not a fan of the over-sized. But if you like it, here's how you do it! some other visuals

I have a bank of windows that is 38' feet long. We used conduit pipe and conduit connectors to span the distance. Ours is 1/2" diameter. (Don't remember if that's inside or outside diameter.) Also used curtain rod brackets at each connection joint, plus more, spaced as needed. Combined with "C" rings, so the drapes can clear the brackets. Electrical conduit is available in several sizes in 10' and 20' lengths Clean thoroughly, spray with a bonding primer, and then with Rustoleum in your preferred finish.

All sides have windows, so I think you are saying an addition would occur on the single window with roof cantilever side. If the size of addition can be tucked under the existing roof, no problem. If the depth extends further out, then an additional roof would need to tie into the existing roof.

The existing roof appears to be an attic truss with a 1/2 story above, so it doesn't seem like removing or altering anything is possible. The (faux) post suggestion would solve the dominant overhang look on both the opposite side and if partially needed on the single window side.

Yes I would remove the window add a door. Upstairs are 3 Bedrooms already so I guess I’m going to have completely Change the roof! To get rid to the bad over hang. The room I’m planing on add would only be a one floor bedroom. Any Idea what that roof would look like if I did completely change it?

No you do not touch the existing roof. Please reread my comment. You add a roof over an addition and tie into the roof.

Those big overhangs are also protecting your house from snow, and ice, or rain, etc. My house is a single level, but, it also has those wide overhangs, and I love to have them. You need an architect to draw out the plans for your addition, so you get it right.
