F daylilies 2024
Comments (12)We too had a rainfall deficit, but please, we don't need more now. Thankfully, it isn't snow; or maybe not thankful, as there will be no insulation with the coming frigid weather. Flutterfest looks like a true pink. Fruitful Discovery--I always liked the color at Ashwood, but was put off by slow opening (and I never saw it before noon). Difficult to locate now. As for Freedom of Expression, there aren't many of Curt's plants that are registered height. Some I see there are much taller than here; others, not, and I wonder when they were ever the registered height. Free Wheelin I think has a more northern range than it used to have, all the result of climate change. People north of here used to complain about its performance, but looks good in Sherry's garden. Fear Not is vivid, but scapes aren't clearly above the foliage most years here. Fashionnaire looks alluring, but only 20 inches tall? How about a clump shot of Flame of the West? Brad, there are a lot of daylilies registered as 10-15 or even higher (and most of those are 10 or less). Of course, you are farther south, so the bud count might be even less a ways north. Most of the older Stamiles in my garden (such as Rock Solid) have bud counts in the 6-9 range. There might be one scape that has more. However, I'm not seeing scape density in First Light. Beautiful ruffling and green throat. Maybe a bridge plant (I'm not a hybridizer). Another pic? What a clump of Fried Green Tomatoes! It multiplies here, but not that much in the bloom department. I guess I am not a Herrington fan. Fiesta Latina --great landscaper with good height (without being a bean pole), heavy bloom, and vivid color Fiesta Panties --quite short, but colorful From Sea to Shining Sea--good height for an Emmerich. Velvety. Fire Pegasus --showy in the garden (probably 5.5 inches). Free Ticket --usually looks more brownish (like Matthew Martin). Plant habit not clear yet. For Ever and For Always--tall, modest budcount, striking color Fancy Panties --blowsy form Feminist Bookstore --haven't seen it at full clump strength yet. Colors seem best early in day. Fountain of Life --can have a nice edge. Flying Trapeze --good height on this Moldovan. Airy bloom placement. Free the Captives --more purplish early morning color changes to reddish tones. Like many others, subpar this year. Free to Dance --a delight this year after two years of doing little. Very appealing color to me. Fight or Flight --subpar this year Free Wheelin Fear Not --better than previous year...See MoreHosta Q 2024 **************
Comments (11)Sorry to hear about the eaglets. It’s a vulnerable stage, but add in dangers that shouldn’t be there, and it’s hard to survive out there. So sad. Here’s the best pic I could get of a bald eagle flying over a lake I was visiting in October. A wild ferret showed up and took care of my rat problem a few years back. Since then we have a combo of neighbor’s cats and stray cats that frequent my yard along with foxes. No more rat problems. Laurie, Callie is a beauty with that big smile on her face. 😊 Ann, that’s pretty funny these days! Paula, I’m glad you’re not going to waste those precious eggs, and don’t we all try to keep a little extra TP around these days? That pic reminds me of the Wigwam Motel on Rt. 66. I’m not sure if my Queen Josephine survives, but I hope to find out this coming season. Here are my Q’s for the day. The neighborhood quails. They are such a good family unit. Crossing the street first, watching for any dangers, is the quail daddy. Then the tiny babies hurl themselves off the curb to follow. They're so small at this point. Mom follows up in the rear making sure each and every one of the babies crosses safely. It’s a wonder those tiny ones can get back up the curb on the other side. I once had to help one reunite with its family when it couldn’t make the jump. These all made it....See MoreHosta T 2024 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments (25)Peren.all, you know your Teaspoon photo belongs in the Hosta Library, right? And so does that Tick Tock, mbug! I am impressed with those Tootie Mae's. Unfortunately, I lost one. It grew slow for me. Regarding the Timex watches--my dad once found one at the edge of the road after a long winter. And it still worked! Wow! Regarding Twilight, I too was experiencing crappy looking leaves mid season. I wrote about it and Bruce Banyai had an interesting viewpoint. Here is the link to that post: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/2052456/twilight#n=16 Now about that square, peren.all says 14. I have counted 12. My husband says 11(?). This will be a serious discussion at the dinner table this evening! A few photos: Titanium. Not looking that great. It could be it suffered from the torrential rains we got. Touch of Class. Heuchera needs dividing. But it is a nice color combination, so I will probably put a piece of it back there again. Touch of Class (one is not enough!)...See MoreHosta XYZ 2024 =^..^= =^..^= =^..^=
Comments (20)Thanks Ann. Yes YBDB does transition later in the season. Mine has never gone as dark as yours but different sun exposure could explain that. I was thinking Striptease like Debra but your pic this a.m. shows YPDB. Debra YB is lovely. What a great name in ZP and a very cute plant. Mike YR is a beauty. Paula your Zounds is terrific. You are a hoot. Beth I had never heard of Zonda before. It looks good. Another nice YR. Lisa great transition shots and another very nice YSR. joc nice to see you back. What a lovely ZDD....See MoreRelated Professionals
