Comments (99)My ex pays for flights because he would never SEE his children if he had to pay. She chose to quit a job and go to school part-time and work very little. I understand that it is HARD for a family of 3 on 28K, but my point was that is was her choice to be poor. That is why I labelled her a "deadbeat". My BF's lawyer put in the agreement that the EX would pay for flights PROPORTIONAL to their incomes once she obtains a FULL-TIME job (and beleive me I think they haggled for a year to even get that included in the divorce). Unfortunately that was many years ago and she still hasn't gotten one. As for the amount paid - all I can say is that if the 2 children were living with him, and not only did he not have to PAY out 800/month, but RECEIVED 800/month (a spread of 1600 which is another thing most people don't think about) and she paid 1/2 the extra 356 in expenses and paid for 1/2 their flights, I am sure it would feel like he won the lottery (both emotionally and finacially). If she made even 40,000/year (which is less than she made in the job she quit), she would have at least 52,000 after tax dollars. The point I was trying to make was by choosing to make herself and her children poor, she is also contributing to making my BF poor. If she worked harder and shared in expenses or paid for flights, that would make a big difference in all 4 of their lives....See MoreWe Broke Up
Comments (21)Thanks, Sweeby. I think for him it seems while he's a hard worker, when it comes to unpleasant things in life he's rather lazy. He has these situations that need to be taken care of, but he won't put any effort to do anything about them. Just like his house. His house is two floors, there are two bedrooms, the kitchen and living room upstairs. But he has a huge basement that he could turn into at least three bedrooms. One bedroom is already finished and there's a bathroom that's half way done. The rest of the downstairs is filled with clutter, just like you see on an episode of Clean House. He said it was just him and his son, so they just lived upstairs and any junk he had he just threw downstairs - out of sight out of mind kind of thing. It didn't even occur to him the amount of living space he had downstairs if he just did something with it. Once we started talking about moving in together then he realized he had to start doing something about the downstairs if he was going to have the room he needed for three more people. He started clearing stuff out, but even that was causing agruments. He felt like I was trying to throw away his "stuff" and he was the one having to make all the changes and I wasn't. He didn't think about the fact that if he wanted to sell the house one day he would have to fix up the downstairs, or the fact that his son and him were occupying only one half of his house's living space. I think he's just lazy and not motivated when it comes to taking care of things. Anyway- yesterday exBF calls me. He said he wanted to apologize to me. He said now he sees what I have been telling him about his son's behavior and he is sorry he didn't listen to me. He said that morning his mother was over and his son was telling her how to cook something. He told his son he's not an adult, his grandma has been cooking longer than he has and he should not be telling what to do. Then he said five minutes later his son was telling his grandma how to do something else. He said at that point he gave him a smack for not listening. He said he now realizes why I said moving in so quickly after getting his son would cause problems, because I would say things but he wouldn't see them and it would cause problems in our relationship. He said he just wanted to apologized to me, that he's been getting on his son more, punishing him and making him mind. Part of me wants to scream NOW you see what I'm talking about!! Now you get your kid around other people and you see it wasn't just me. Also, he said also not to worry about the tax issue, he is not going to leave me hanging. He said he has over $2k in receipts that should offset most of the taxes that will be owed. I asked him "Don't you feel you're in a catch 22? You're afraid of getting a regular job because you're afraid the IRS will garnish your wages, but you can't get enough work under the table to pay your bills?" He said yes he thinks about that all the time and he wants to get this situation straightened out so he can work a regular job. But once again, he still hasn't done anything about the situation yet. About the child support situation -Before I had told him since both BM and himself are in agreement on the situation it doesn't seem they would need to pay an attorney, he could write something up himself and submit it in court. He asked me how he would go about doing that and what the agreement would have to say. I suggested he go to a clerk of the court and ask them. He said thanks he would. I'm tempted to help him write something up, but I won't. Maybe it sounds mean, but he didn't want to listen to me before, so now he has to do this on his own....See MoreI’m tired of Giving Tuesday
Comments (76)"Some folks really need to get off their high horses!!" If people would like to, volunteer for your local Goodwill or other agency. That'll knock most folks off their high horses very fast as they see that they'll accept anything and gladly. The worst of the worst gets thrown out. The reason is that they won't refuse anything for fear that word gets around that they're picky and people will stop giving. There's a little lesson. "Perhaps the onus is on the organization to whittle down the nature of the donations accepted then. " They do, in a sense. There's an old saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." It's both true and false. I volunteered for Goodwill around here for ages until it changed a lot in the area, and people really do donate some questionable things. Interestingly, we'd take it all, but the really questionable stuff went to the bulk store. You could get cloth by the pound, and so on, to do with whatever you wanted. People used it to make quilts, as cleaning cloths, to scrub a garage floor, shredded it for thread, and so on. Almost everything had a use, and at a quarter a pound (or less sometimes), there was somebody or some company willing to buy it for that. "Good" stuff--good being relative in the sense that it was single items people would buy for appreciable cash--went to individual stores where items sold well. This wasn't something I did much of (I wasn't good at it, they laughed at how bad I was actually, so I did the main sorting of good, bad, awful, but saw how it went). Books did not go to rural stores. They just don't sell well there. Sorry folks, but there it is. :-) Textbooks generally got sent to the poorer stores to try to fill in for the fact that schools just didn't have the same funding. Clothing styles and sizes were apportioned to the stores where they would sell well. Knicknacks would depend, as would glassware and kitchenware. And they're not above, in any sense, "regifting" their donations to others if another agency can use it better. However, if you walk in with a bag full of filthy T-shirts covered in grime? They're going to smile at you, accept them, and give you a receipt for your items, just like we did. Those filthy ancient T-shirts are worth $0.25 per pound to somebody after we clean them up....See MoreDelay in issuing federal tax returns?
Comments (39)Wow, thank you!. The in-person meeting in which I was told "No, No, a thousand times No" was my last major effort, I figured that was it. I'd followed up a few times in the ensuing years only to be given the same response. I accepted my fate and dropped it. Nothing lost in trying again. Did you contact them by phone or by mail to a Service Center? At one time, I was dealing with a fraud department that I think was in Austin but I didn't keep the correspondence or the contact information. The Service Center for my area has long been in Fresno but that's closing in 2 weeks and its functions transferred to Ogden. Absent other alternatives, I'd use that address for a letter. Thanks again PK!...See More- last year
