Pantry Closet Door - open to laundry or kitchen?
Comments (7)Itsallaboutthefood, it would. We'd do a barn door/slider if we place it in the laundry area. Loloauren, We are back and forth on the door to the laundry area. We'd have a 36 inch door that would open towards the laundry room wall (on the right side of above pic). If we do that, the door will be in the kitchen by default. I was originally going to do a pantry cabinet there, but my budget did not allow it.The fridge will be to the left of the sink, which is under the window. I have three feet of counter there for that kind of prep. This is our empty-nest/retirement home, so it will be just the two of us most of the time....See MoreAlternatives to bi-fold closet doors?
Comments (25)kudzu, there are no jambs. The pivot base is screwed right into the top and bottom of the door opening on the problem door; thus into the wood under the drywall at the top, and into the wood floor at the bottom. I just went and checked it. The base is secure top and bottom. It's the metal pivot going into the door that is wobbling. The door starts tilting at the top, where it starts hitting the side of the door opening at the top. When the people installing the doors installed them, I guess they didn't know that a solid door needed more. I ordered the doors custom made so I could stain them to match my kitchen, and they did say they'd never seen anything like them. Last time he replaced them, my husband just went to Menard's and bought them, so I don't know if they were labeled for load capacity. Said if these failed, we were out of options. That's got to be it. Thank you so much for telling me about this! These are just too flimsy for the load of the solid wood oak door we bought. The door is tilting again. What kind of load capacity should I be looking for? Should I just weigh the door when we take it off? Can you get a variety of ones with different loads at a common home improvement store, or is this something I will need to order?...See Morealternative to bifold closet doors?
Comments (13)There are different qualities of bifold doors so you might want to go to a good door store and see how they felt. I have a combination of closet door styles in my home. Sliding doors (IMO) work best with relatively wide closets and even then I am sometimes frustrated a bit when I need to slide back and forth. In my bedroom I also like that they function as really good full length mirrors - as well as providing a mirror image of my views. Bifolds work well because I have complete visibility and access to the entire closet and obviously the function where a swinging door would impede egress....See MoreLaundry Room Closet Doors
Comments (17)I agree about bifold doors...if not necessarily flimsy, they are awkward to operate and don't fold out of the way enough in many applications. I love your idea of the partially sliding in doors and would pick that solution myself. I don't think you need louvered doors either, they are a pain to keep clean and what kind of ventilation does a washer/dryer need? None. I'm not sure if any of the previous links go to this source, but they have a great selection for what you want, up to 110 lbs: https://www.richelieu.com/us/en/category/sliding-system-solutions/sliding-solutions-for-cabinet-and-furniture-applications/hawa-concepta-series-pivot-and-slide-in-pocket-door-system/1206997?nf_1031396=%281764651%29...See MoreRelated Professionals
