Comments (2)The container will not drain the same % of water if it's sitting in a puddle, but the % won't be particularly significant. What will be significant is: if water (in a puddle) is able to make contact with the soil in the container through surface tension and/or capillarity, it will "feed" and prolong the saturated conditions of any PWT that might be in the container. Comments (4)It looks like the patio surface would be 3' to 4' above grade. A paver patio is typically not installed because of that very reason - backfilling. First, you would need retaining walls. Backfilling is an expensive and laborous process to minimize settling, and the higher you go the more settling that will occur. Also this raised patio may block look-out basement windows if you have them. Stick with a deck if you want outdoor living to be the same height as the 1st floor.
