Comments (36)From what I've seen almost all of the HF items are from Asia. 'course that applies to a lot of the big box stores also. For you folks looking for tune up, etc. info, post in the tool shed forum, lots of friendly and knowledgable folks there. Make sure you include the engine Mfg, model number, etc. as small engines are small engines. Be aware that all gas we buy today has ethanol which is a major PITA to small engines!!!, you have to include additives to combat this!! If your engine has a gas shut off, use it and run the engine dry at every use. ALso, the carburetors on new engines do not have adjustments anymore, just precisely milled orifices that serve the same purpose. That leads to gunk being deposited and the engine doesn't run or runs poorly, particuarly in view of the ethanol in the gas. Then you get to take off the carb, disassemble, soak in carb cleaner, blow out with air, say a number of "hail mary's" and still may end up buying a new carb. :-( Use the additives, don't use old gas, if you don't have a gas shut off after the tank, add one so the carb can be run dry. Comments (7)I have a Yard Machine 5hp chipper/shredded which I think works great. I know there was a long thread on here by someone dissastified by theirs, but mine work greats. The drop down hopper for leaves works very good for me. What I do is rake or blow a huge pile of leaves and drop the hopper at the edge, start it up and rake leaves into the hopper, there is enough air being blown through the unit that there is a suction that sucks the leaves into the shredder. If there are sticks in the leaves, they may clog it up depending on the angle the stick is stuck. I would get one with the plastic drop-down chute, not the metal one. The plastic one seems to me like it would allow for much better suction of the leaves into the shredder. The metal hopper allows much more air for air to be sucked into the shredder. It also has a chipper, which is nice for branches but you said that isn't a concern, still, it is nice to have. There are usually some on ebay. If I had to buy one, I'd opt for the large HP one, but the 5hp works fine and if you are just doing leaves, the 5hp should be plenty. I know if I had 15 large mature oak trees, I would be looking for something with a drop down chute or a large diameter suction hose (Mackissic leaf cycler would work). Getting one with only a chute you have to drop leaves into I think would leave you with a very sore or at least very tired back from all the bending over and picking up-not to mention that would take alot of time! Mackissic is out of your price range if you buy new, but maybe look for a used unit? -Bruce Here is a link that might be useful: yard machine...See MoreRecommendations for a Leaf Shredder?
Comments (11)Hey, I didn't even tell you the best part, I filled it with oil and gas, and I was about to pull the starter rope, when I got"off balance" (tripped over my own feet ;-), and what occurred was a half-hearted, falling backwards, kind of pull.... that thing started right up, and every time since, I'm serious ,This thing starts up sooooo easily....it totally rocks ;-) I Love that ! ! !...See Moremy leaf vac/shredder
