In situ leaf shredder?

last month

I would like to find an innovative way to turn more of my whole fall leaves into shredded. I don’t have a lawn mower , and though leaves do fall on my small amount of “ real lawn”, it’s not the majority.

I have a leaf shredder where you put them through the top funnel, but it takes a long time to shred a lot, plus leaves keep falling and the shredder is stored in inconvenient spot when not in use. I no longer use a vacuum-bagging shredder because I have too many rocks & twigs, and such large oak leaves that the vacuum tube was always getting clogged.

I have 3 cube-shaped compost bins which are near a bunch of leaf fall, and it’s not hard to bring trugfulls from elsewhere, so they get filled up pretty easily. But I’d really like the equivalent of an “ immersion blender” for leaves, I could shred somewhat within the bin , or a thick pile, but not a lawnmower of course. Not too heavy. It wouldn’t have to result in perfectly fine shredding size— even partial shredding speeds up the composting process , I think , plus I could keep fitting more leaves in before finalizing it to process over the next months.

I haven’t tried using my string trimmer , as not sure if that’s a good idea.

Any ideas for a lightweight gizmo? Thanks!
