Comments (5)Elux (See details below) I've had the Elux Icon 30" single oven, the Elux Icon Speed Oven, and their wine fridge for over 4 years now. All have been trouble free, oven bakes accurately, Speed oven used every day (mostly for microwaving) but gets a lot of use as a speed oven also. Wine fridge has been trouble free (alto Elux did have a lotta problems with their earlier model full size fridges) most the post about their new fridges have been positive but still a bit early to tell how they will do in the longer run. I had to replace a very fancy Caldera cooktop after it failed in less than 2 years. I replaced it with an Elux Icon Induction cooktop---had it about a year now and we love it. Dishwasher? I would still go with Miele (as we did) or Kitchenaid HTH's Good Luck!! Gary...See MorePlease vote! (two layouts)
Comments (21)Pickle, It'll all make sense when you have it nailed down. Why not start with some blank rectangles--no doors and windows at all, and make your best kitchen, then ease back the doors and windows as things settle. Just about the feeling (no practicality, budget, or anything else), #1 looks squished and #2 feels like "ahhhh, that's better". Practicality: you two fight for the corner. Sometimes. Practicality: big budget bump to move windows. Practicality: I'm not in my kitchen yet. My windows are bigger, actually. But moving them did cut out my favorite sunbeam. I would really hesitate to cut out a window altogether, though you do have three sides windows, and two sides is probably adequate. I'd want the window. Move it, cut it, but keep it. Looks: Do you want that bigger range? I mean lust? Another budget buster? Or not? It looks pretty. If moving windows gains it for you and the whole thing is affordable, go fo it!! Get the dream range! And by shifting the windows, open up your corner too. But I'd like even 6" of counter on the far side of the range, rather than going right to the hutch. If you're an unfitted type that might not do it for you, however....See MorePlease vote! all black appliances - 1 SS?
Comments (17)When they show those appliance pics they normally backlight the glass door items so you can see easily inside what "fits" and plan that while you purchase. In reality, glass front fridges tend to look like a black glossy hole (I don't mean that in a bad way LOL). So what I'm trying to say is that the first will read (design wise) as a black appliance with ss trim. As you upgrade or change out other items, I'd shoot for the same look, a bit of SS with black. The black looks great with your cabinets and floor (they sort of disapear). I rarely say this...but I think SS might sort of pop out too much if you had all of your appliance surfaces in 100% stainless. I personally would look to something with a bit more black and silver (SS) for that range top when you change it. It disapears a bit too much in the countertop IMO right now. A little relief to the long expanse of cream would be a nice thing. I love what you've done with the existing kitchen. It's so warm and rich. So many people shy away from dark colors, especially in a kitchen. I think your kitchen is a great example of how well rich and deep tones can work to make a space inviting. It's really lovely....See MoreFinal Decisions; Please Vote/Help Us Decide
Comments (21)I suggested just going deeper on the stove wall because with the hood breaking up the line, it would not feel visually too full. You could do the reverse and put it on the other side, now that I think about it more. If you prep a lot on the stove side, it would feel more spacious to put the deep ones on the other side. I am also a big fan of open shelving as it makes a visual statement and also makes reaching things easy. It saves money and preserves flexibility. If you went with deeper cabs on the fridge wall and did open shelves on the stove wall, it would maximize natural light and air flow. You could even have shelves wrap the corner for a very nice look. I was not crazy about the deeper cabs only on the end. That exposes the sides of 2 cabs and does not gain you much. If you went with more deeper cabs, then you will notice the storage difference. FWIW, I like bbtondo's layout for the fridge. It serves to make the chokepoint seem less a problem and since you have plenty of counter space, you would gain storage in the tall cab without losing function. You also have a good distance between the stove area and the wall opposite, so you would not be crowded when cooking. If you could still recess the fridge, I'd consider that a great idea.... if not, it is still a contender....See MoreRelated Professionals
