Help with ideas for correcting shower fixture placement!!
I don't know quite what our contractor was thinking when he installed the plumbing fixtures for our shower. We provided the kit shown (marble shower), and they installed it like this (green shower).
EDIT: Not all pictures/text made it to the original post. We can fix the shower head to be as intended, I think they just misplaced the part and used something else.
The dilemma is with the hand shower. This particular hand shower has a mount that is goes directly over the valve. I admit I did not realize that but I would have expected my contractor to advise me of this since we had the kit before the plumbing was roughed in. He said this is how they "always do it" but I think if he would have actually looked at the kit he would have figured this out before. So yes, we are stuck with the location for the rough in unless we want to tear up the tile, which we don't.
I am looking for some of your ideas on what options may work for this configuration. I don't know if I can make a bar work somehow? Or maybe find a coordinating hand shower that where I can mount the handheld part higher and the attach hose to the valve below.

Comments (9)I have put laundries in kitchens, but my personal favorite is in the bedroom or near the clothes closet. I am lazy that way. Older architecture often discounted closet storage or the latest indoor plumbing of the day but favored larger rooms from which I would steal space by throwing up a wall and creating a concealed utility area. You really have to get out of the box sometimes. You also have to deal with 4x4 studs and different wall construction, but you can go crazy in the attic running utility supply wherever you wish. Drainage is another matter, and if I could not tie into existing, I have gone right out the exterior wall. Wish I could be of more service, The only out of the box Idea I can muster right now regarding that door / w/d placement is a type of hanging rolling door used on barns up in snow country. Mount the support to the ceiling and let the door slide over in front of the w/d. This is alignment not currently on the plan, and would require a slightly larger shower toward the interior of the room to catch spray and drip off the bottom of the door. Also kinda cool in that custom glass door design kinda way. The door could easily slide into something of a channel, and would work as if it were a shower curtain rather than a perimeter sealed door unit..cr lawerence has many types of glass fittings. Comments (1)We are doing a similar update. Originally our shower was tile that leaked after 8 years. So we replaced it. That leaked after 7 years. We had planned to do tile again but at the last minute switched to flexstone/sentrel panels. So very happy we did. I think this shower is going to last alot longer than tile. Here is a thread on our remodel. Not done yet as we are slow as molasses but so far we are impressed with the ease of installation and the overall look of the product. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5918286/flexstone-sentrel-panels-calacatta-white-pictures#n=8 Their product can either go over existing tile or be put on new wall board. You can buy direct from the company to get the taller walls, upgraded niche, corner seat etc. Or you can buy from Home Depot that has a subset of the products and the kits. Home Depot also has lots of reviews so you can see what other people think of it and see their finished showers. I don't know if I would go with their shower base due to the material. However I think it is plenty rugged enough for shower walls. Your contractor's odd choices makes you wonder what else he does wrong that you can't see, but he thinks is fine, because this is how "they always do it".
You learned your lesson for your next remodel ... leave nothing for the contractor to decide on his own. They can't read your mind and sometimes the ideas in their minds are really weird! Specify everything in a face to face meeting and then confirm in writing.
You can probably fit a Jaclo grab/handheld bar and get a longer hose.I like the Jaclo bar with articulating joint, which lets you angle the handheld away from the wall, allowing for actual use. It comes in several "gold" tones and with square ends ... mine has the round ends.
