Help needed -- what to do with these trees NOW?

Here it is mid-December, and my friend who lives on the other side of the state ran across a nursery going-out-of-business sale, they have beautiful B&B trees for $20 a pop!! She picked up a few things for me, I'll probably drive out and pick them up this weekend or next.

I wouldn't have a problem if they were potted, but they're B&B'ed....what should I do to get them through the winter? Ground is nearly frozen, so I can't heel them in in-ground unless we get a few days of warm weather, but nights are still forecasted to be in the low-20s for next couple weeks so probably can't dig.

I have a huge pile of shredded leaves next to the barn, can I lean the trees against the side of the barn and pile leaves on the root balls? (would be east side of barn, little wind). Or should I just haul them in the (unheated) barn for storage? But with that option I might not be able to guarantee the root balls won't dry out, can't cover w/leaves -- but maybe a tarp?

What should I do?
