Ceiling & Fireplace Input

Hello,
We built our house eight years ago. Our goal was to pay off the house projects like the fireplace, ceiling work and new furniture.

We're ready to start designing and I'm looking for input on tongue and groove + beams on the ceiling while tying it into a gas fireplace place to the right side of the room. I'd love to see something around the perimeter of the room that would break up the ceiling/wall.

Any, and all ideas are welcome!

OMG we are experiencing this now. Sears came out and installed a new central air and gas heating system. we are in the second year and now every time the furnace come on this foul smell comes from all the vents. We are searching and even called and paid for a technician to come out to tell us the furnace is working fine. Does any one have the answer?

Sammie J, I meant what surrounds the gas fireplace insert, and also the column to the left of the cabinetry. Right now it looks somewhat like concrete, too, but perhaps more like concrete tiles. I wonder if I should cast the whole thing in concrete. Thanks.

I just notice the roof structure in the house is different to what’s in garage. Was not able to take photo to show it clearly, but it looks like this. Is this a truss which I cannot have one section altered? Can tray ceiling be done in a way to lift the ceiling a bit instead of dropping down?
