Do I really need a seam? Ideas for transporting whole
Comments (17)Thank you everyone! Just seeing this now.(and with the photos I see what you mean about it being risky) I will be holding my breadth. I went with the fabricator who came to my house in advance of getting the project. He looked around and said he wouldn't have a problem getting it into the house (which was the main concern of one of his other workers). I asked if it was a problem to keep it in an L mentioned that several fabricators felt we needed a seam and he said no problem. They've worked with the Princess White before and acknowledged it was more brittle than the granite but felt confident that they could do it. He was a little more concerned about the two seams by the sink but in the end felt that the superglue would be fine. He and his brother were on the young side, but not so young that they were inexperienced. But I do see them as more risk taking. I said don't just tell me you can do it because you think that's what I want to hear and he said he wasn't doing that. I guess I should have asked explicitly will you replace it if it breaks (vs. trying to fix it) but I didn't want to be too antagonistic before anything has actually happened. I asked if they had done anything as large as mine but with the princess white and he said hard to remember the exact dimensions Hopefully, since I won't have the cutout for the sink the way you do, it will mean less stress at that particular point. I'm getting a farm sink and the part behind the sink will only be a few inches (just beyond the curved corner). That is if the sink is the proper dimension. I'm so tired and I still need to figure out faucets. Thank you!...See MoreHelp! Quartzite counter has changed colors
Comments (193)Can anyone recommend a silicone for around white quartzite where it meets wall that will not bleed into Calacatta Lux Quartzite? It is installed and the edges were not sealed. any help is greatly appreciate to be able to avoid these problems. We had a little silicone bleed one the one piece they sealed and acetone removed it. I want to avoid this, and ESPECIALLY these slow bleeds that take awhile to show. I want to put up tiles but not before I can test a good silicone for the edges and wait a few weeks. Thanks so so much in advance!!!! It is quartzite and passed all the tests, but when I learned hardness and porousity are two different things, it was already installed - came across this looking for maintenance and care....See MoreQuartzite counter identification help, please!
Comments (18)Have you looked at any of the pre fabricated countertops? Since you said you had a small kitchen and full slab might be a waste, a pre fab could work. they have granite, marble, quartz and some quartzite. you won't be able to get some of the more exotics, but this one for instance was really different. Called Ice Jade. it cost 600, edges were finished and comes in a 9'X22" piece. you hire a fabricator to fit it to your dimensions and cut-outs. you can see all of the other choices in this pic (and this was a rather small collection)...See MoreHELP?! Comments (59)@Michele Bennett I was/am unaware of any edging tile to match this, so I didn't have any. The edge pieces were showing around an archway to the shower and they were pale blue. I didn't like that, especially after being told they would use a Schluter edge. I chose a paint to match the grout and had the edge painted. It's ok but not elegant. I would find a solution to this before committing to this tile. The tile setter used Schluter around the shower niche and It looks nice. Pictures to follow......See MoreRelated Professionals
