Need help-Discount prices on Designer eyeglasses??
Comments (1)Check eBay! Seriously...many brick & mortar stores also sell new stuff on eBay. In fact I just got my very first pair of reading glasses (ouch! Oh well, I'm 46 so I guess it's about that time) and bought three pairs on eBay. Brand new, from some store in NYC...cheaper than what I saw at the drug store and pretty cute too. :o)...See MoreWhat's hip in eyeglass land?
Comments (57)I see that Warby Parker will ship you 5 frames to try on at home if there is not a store near you. I do like their styles, and they don't seem to be incredibly expensive. I mostly wear my frames at home, so buying a new fancy pair seems like a waste. I've had these Prada frames for a few years now. I still get a lot of compliments on them when I wear them even if they are not the latest trend. I am lucky I have a good fit with multifocal contacts. I asked my eye doctor last exam in March about cataracts, and luckily I am good for now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prada-Orange-Brown-Rectangular-Eye-Glasses-Model-VPR-03H-51-16-7BP-101-135-/161709278233?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a69fc419...See MoreEyeglasses - Help me with choices and etiquette?
Comments (41)Thank you all. Tina, the first pair is a solid yes-- as are the sunglasses. I still need a second pair. As for buying online-- all I am considering buying online are the frames. Frames I have already chosen locally. It's not any different from trying them on and ordering from a local shop-- except the money doesn't stay local. They are new, in original packaging etc and can be returned. That said, my glasses are ALWAYS sent out for the lenses. My lenses must be specially ground. Still, I order them through the dr office where they take the proper measurements and make the necessary adjustments. smh - yes, you and my nieces! The black glasses above aren't even in the running-- but it was the best photo showing a black frame. There are others that look better.. but I went with the one that showed the color best. 1929 - excellent point! I will start with one pair first-- just because the prescription is tricky. The Dr wanted me to start with one pair.. wait a few weeks to a month and then get the others. Annie, yes your points are all valid.. but shape isn't really a decision I am struggling with. I have had lots of input and help in choosing the frame shape. I've also been wearing glasses for as long as I can remember. Don't worry that I'll go all rogue LOL! While my style can be a touch quirky, it's basically classic with a little funk... never the other way around. Neetsie - There is a model with tortoise shell cat eye but the stems are blue. Too much like the first pair which I am definitely ordering... and they don't have them in the store. I tried them on in the spring but they sold out. The black has black stems and a tiffany blue inside the frame. Much easier to distinguish. I guess I should have shared that since I will be switching from computer/reading glasses to walking around glasses-- even to just go to the bathroom, I want them to be different and distinguishable. Even meetings will be a challenge as I will need one pair to read.. and another to see someone across the table. I am hoping I can adapt to that well enough to not need to constantly switch back and forth and distract others. I guess some would prefer the two to look similar so it wasn't obvious they were wearing two pairs glasses. I guess I can mull that around. practigal - my mom says the same thing about Costco. I haven't tried them as they are no longer convenient to me. I can always check to see if they carry the brands that have been consistently working well for me. Thank you ALL again! You are all so sweet and helpful!...See MoreShow me your eyeglasses!
Comments (56)Another vote for Warby Parker, my husband loves them. He wears his glasses all day every day, and his first pair held up great for over two years (they're still good but he just got bored). He's well into his second pair now with no problems. This is a guy who used to only buy expensive frames. If there are fitting issues and you don't have a WP store in your town, you can get your optometrist to shape them. They can also help you measure the distance of your pupils-- essential to center your Rx in the lenses. I don't think those virtual try-on services are accurate enough. They'll help you narrow it down, but it's not a replacement for trying on IRL. With at home try-on services you can view yourself in different lighting situations and take a long time thinking about it. There are other brands doing this now, but I have yet to try them. (My favorite was Fetch, but sadly they closed.)...See MoreRelated Professionals
