Help Choosing Shingle Color & Ideas to Add Curb Appeal to Our House?
Comments (4)Hmmm...neither of those shingle colors look right to me. It could just be my screen, but the top one looks like it could have a little blue undertone, and the bottom one looks a bit red. Is the brick mortar more gray...or more gray than it looks on my screen? If so, I'd stick with gray for the roof as long as it has no blue. Gray roofs with brick are usually nice. Agree there's not much room for properly sized shutters. You could beef up the window trim instead. BTW, the roof color in your third photo looks good. Maybe stick with something close to that....See MoreHow can I add more charm and curb appeal to my new home?
Comments (11)You have a very charming house! But you are correct, it needs something. If this was my home I would add tons of white trim to the exterior. Big trim on the corners and around windows & doors. I’m not fond of the circular part above your front door. I would remove it. I would then install a different siding in the 2 large peaks and have a big piece of horizontal trim separating the 2 sidings. The siding within the peaks could be scalloped, or board & batten, or smaller and vertical, there’s lots of options out there. Also remove the storm door (I’m one of those anti-storm door people). Also, I wouldn’t go too crazy with landscaping. What you already have will grow and fill in....See MoreHow can I add curb appeal to the exterior of this house?
Comments (6)I wouldn't say it is without any curb appeal. It is attractive with a kind of rustic vibe. I would not ditch the shutters. They are completely appropriate to this house. If you removed them, you would be left with even larger expanses of blank wall, out of balance with the window sizes. Although the shutters on the two short upper story windows could be a bit wider, some will repeat the dogma that they should be sized to look able to actually cover the windows when closed and should be removed if they don't. That is clearly impossible here and would also give an unbalanced feel. IMO of course. I might give the front and storm door a color that works with the siding and roof (pumpkin, maybe, or a warm strong blue or green). I can't really see the porch/front door light, but the ones by the garage door are rather undersized. So the front door one might be also. What is really needed is better landscaping. The rows of small/narrow shrubs don't add much appeal, and still won't once they've grown. I would consult with a garden center (if they have a designer on staff, many do) to come up with a more varied and naturalistic planting scheme....See MorePlease help us add a little more curb appeal to our new home
Comments (5)Remove the too small shutters since shutters should look like they could cover the windows. They add nothing and actually detract. Paint the garage door the same color as the house so it fades away and is not the first thing you see. Pavers instead of concrete. Better landscaping, including some flowers....See MoreRelated Professionals
