Oro Blanco left in the car while at work... now sunburned..help!
Comments (13)I would continue to water your poor tree, and 1/2 strength fertilizer. It appears (very, very early to tell for sure, yet), that the sprouting you see if from above the graft line, so it would be your tree starting to recover, miraculously. I would also very carefully remove the shipping stick. It serves no purpose, and is starting to girdle your tree. Patty S....See MoreSink - does center rear drain work as well as right/left rear?
Comments (8)I have a rear center drain and I strongly prefer this over a drain off to one side. I tend to multitask in our sink, and the drain is central to the activities. I can have a pan of dishwater on one side, veggies draining in the colander on the other side, and the drain free in the middle for dumping pasta water or running water to rinse a knife or vegetables. A drain off to the side would be blocked more often than my back center drain. The only time the center drain is blocked is when I have really large things in the sink, like fridge shelves or drawers. But it's much better to have the drain placed well for 95% of my kitchen tasks than for the rarer 5%. I agree that a grid is helpful. Our sink is 30" wide and our cabinet is 36" wise. We don't have a gd. I like having the plumbing in the middle--it frees up the usable space so that it is either behind left door or right door. Our compost is behind the left door and other supplies are behind the right door....See MoreVelvet curtains I left @ store...tell me they wouldn't of worked.
Comments (16)Oakley, "I think the room IS lacking in pattern." Really? IRL you can actually see colors in the houndstooth better. I think I'm about at my pattern limit but I like me some buffalo checks. :) Ha, I still remember when I put all the pillows on the bed and DH looked at me and said,"none of them match... ?" I like that rug in the inspiration pic but I'm not going to buy one for the room. Getting the right size could be tricky with the dresser location plus, you won't see it with the bed and I don't have the extra cash for one right now anyhow. Tina, the fabric I bought was only 3/4 yard but it's of the houndstooth pillows from the inspiration photo. I was going to wait to start a thread on that. I'd like to add it to the bed either with a pillow or on a throw... I don't want to find a bunch of the fabric (so please don't look or mention if you find it guys) because I have too much money invested in this room and want to keep all the pillows (except the red). It may not work at all to add that fabric back in but I think just touching it will somehow make me feel better, lol. I admit feeling disappointed looking at the original inspiration photo because I was just so excited about that fabric but I don't want to get into all that crap that went down with NH again. Anyhow, I'm using the original small coordinating houndstooth for the shower curtain base. Have to wait for NH to get more in. Was told by the end of the month. I bailed out on that calico corner plaid and housefabric houndstooth. I think they would've competed with the floral too much and I would've found them too busy. Bonnie, I actually wondered if velvet is dated too and maybe it can be when not used in the right setting. (such as my room):) I'll move on from that mainly because of the cat hair. Pal, That's a very, very good point. My head was really set on brown and brown curtain seems pretty easy to pair with paint so I wasn't too worried. I have that plaid fabric as a topper in my LR with a camel color cloth underneath and I like the combination. I realize the curtains won't be right against the fabric but I'm making the comparision that, my first thoughts for that tablecloth were so set on green, green, green that I couldn't picture the camel color. Turns out I like it much better. I won't know unless I try it. "Benjamin Moore complete set of fandecks has 3645 colors" :) I feel so silly. Returning curtains is much easier than repainting. They should make a t shirt that says that....See MoreDo I start over with my design and scrap months of work and money?
Comments (47)I've been following your threads and I feel for you. The whole renovation process can get overwhelming at times. I like your original design a lot - it has many beautiful features. I agree with what nancyjwb said about its functionality being not terrible, but not ideal. You could just move the sink off center and go with it if that's what you want to do (and you'd have a gorgeous kitchen.) But, if you want to make it function significantly better, I think you could make a few relatively minor changes. It would not require that you scrap the current design and start over. Here are 3 things you might think about tweaking, in order of importance (the last one being mostly aesthetic.) (Also, I think the recommendations you got in the other thread about the stacked cab heights and lining up doors were great - I'm assuming you're going ahead with those.) 1. Make sure all your aisles are wide enough. This probably means at least 48" on the two working sides of the island. It may mean you need to shrink the length of your island to about 9'. If your island is 9'x5', to get your 5 seats, it looks like you can put 3 facing the back wall and 2 facing the dining room. Check the distance to the angled window wall to make sure you have enough clearance there, though. 2. Move your cleanup sink to the pass-thru counter and put a prep sink in the island (to one side, probably toward the back window wall.) I think raising the back half of the pass thru to block the sink from the dining room is a good idea. If you are worried about only having 15" of space on each side of the sink with the current pass-thru design, I think you have 2 options: (a) move the sink off center to one side or the other so you have more continuous space on one end for putting dishes during cleanup (b) make the pass thru wider by turning the tall cabs on either side of the opening into glass cabs. These would be the ones in red, below:You would still have the tall cabinet at the left end of the pass-thru. In a big kitchen like yours, this would be a huge improvement in function and let multiple people work in the kitchen at the same time. (I am actually thinking of a similar design with the sink on a pass thru wall for my kitchen. More than anything else in my redesign, I want to be able to separate the cleanup zone from the prep/cooking zones.) With those 2 changes, I think your kitchen would function really well. 3. Like I said before, this one is more aesthetic than functional. There were a lot of comments in both threads about the weight of cabinetry on the back wall. I know you don't like the view out that side of the house and don't like the position of the current window, but you might want to think about putting in a pair of narrower windows on either side of the range like this: As others have suggested, you could use leaded or reeded glass to obscure the view while letting in light. You probably don't really need the storage of those uppers. This would address the 'heaviness' issue and brighten up your kitchen (see pic below.) But if you don't want to do it, then don't. Ultimately, it's your kitchen, and you should do what you want to. Based on the drawings, it is going to be beautiful!...See MoreRelated Professionals
