Rug color inspo for dining room…

I have a black dining room table getting delivered soon with some white chairs. Looking for rug ideas for underneath. keep it light? Mixed light and dark? (We aren’t keeping current rug)

You are going to get endless suggestions and mine lol is to wait to decide until the furniture is placed. The shape/style of the lovely table and chairs may be more appreciated without a rug for instance and you’ll also know what size rug would work best.

If adding a rug, try to narrow down: light, dark, neutral, patterned, etc and by looking at inspiration pictures you’ll get a better sense, as it comes down to personal taste and connection to other spaces.

The gold draperies IMO seem the wrong color along with the pale yellow on the walls. I have made adjustments The chandelier in the DR should be a contrast in bronze not brass.

Thanks for all the advice! I think I am on the side of getting a rug. The more time I have spent looking at the room today has made it more obvious. Thanks for the pictures Beth, super helpful! I am an extremely particular person, especially when it come to rugs haha (I spent 3 or 4 weeks constantly/obsessively searching for the one in our living room). It is nice to have a jumping off point. Let the search begin... I have a black rectangular planter coming that I was planning on placing on the table and planting some low succulents in (picture). I thought that the table needed something black on it to pull in the light fixture more effectively. I was also planning on putting large plant in the corner. I'm not sure what type of art to put on the wall under the window. The window placement is...awkward. I wonder if a live/moss planting would work? There will be more mini projects and questions that come up for this main area as we move through it. We have most of the major pieces but are missing a lot of the smaller elements to tie it all together.

when I first saw the pictures I thought you need to bring the sectional closer to the fireplace and TV.... then saw it was a step down from the dining area. kind of dangerous to do that. maybe you could find a taller bookcase or 2 to place on the lower level and serve as a sofa table, bar and buffet when needed blocking off the step down and getting more storage and flat surface. I think in this case you do need a rug to get some color in the room. make sure it is large enough so that when you pull the chairs away from it that they are still on the rug. pull your favorite colors from the painting to bring somehow into each area (kitchen, dining and living room). looks like you already have some red in the kitchen picture. it should be repeated throughout the whole area that is visible in an open concept area. the pictures are just to give you an idea how just small things in each room repeating a color help make it interesting, unified and keeps your eyes moving in the room. you have so many choices to pick from. what is your favorite? I think changing the rug in the living room would also help. 2 rugs don't need to be the same but should complement eachother.

Unless you’re going for a black and white monochromatic scheme, I’d consider bringing some copper or another warm color in for interest.

Agree with @Maureen that maybe a rug is not needed, but if you want one, I like the way this echoes the window shade headers. The curves of the table and chairs could play nicely against the straight lines.

I had no opinion bout the copper only that dark brown rug that has no connestion to anything in the space . Until we get some direction from the OP I have no idea about what to suggest .3 days wih no info or pics of the rest of the living spaces means we work in a vacuum.

It's hard to go wrong with a classic oriental rug. They are timeless and because many have geometric patterns that should mix rather well with modern as well as classic furniture.

I too love Persian or orientals with very contemporary furniture and if we have some clue as to the rest of the house maybe we can even narrow that choice a bit I can only assume this has been decided since no feed back at all.
