Center Built-ins or Leave as is
Comments (7)Sina Sadeddin Architectural Design - I would like to paint the back something to contrast a bit. A friend of mine recommended a lighter color or maybe white since all the decorations have a darker tone to them. Really like the idea of something that's not permanent. ninigret Definitely would like to mount one day. Just waiting to see what we want to do. And I do agree with you about the poster. I will probably remove once we have it all more formalized. Just saw a space and wanted to give it a try. :) I also like the idea of a pattern on the back! That could be fun! JudyG Designs - I haven't thought about removing the shelves completely - that's a thought. I guess I considered a whole wall piece a built-in, even if it's not technical built-in to the wall. Good point. Loving all these ideas!...See MoreOff-center bump out TV wall advice: built-ins/ shelves/ book case?
Comments (6)Another vote for why is the TV so high when there's not even a fireplace you have to clear? You want it at eye level for seated people. (Well, really, *I* want it over a console to the left of the bump, but you've already ruled that out.) You'll have difficulty building anything in on either side without partially blocking the closet and/or window. I think I'd just do a furniture piece of some sort on each side, with a painting over at least one of them. Or a slim bookcase to the left, since you already have an end table and lamp there, and then something with a little more presence on the right......See MoreWhat to do with early 2000s built in entertainment center
Comments (30)My feeling is that you could possibly demo down to the slab and get it at floor level integrate it into the room but what would you do with it as a full alcove? I am not sure the benefits would be worth the cost. At least with that ledge there you could make it built in furniture? I still think it's a great spot for the TV even if you open the top because anywhere else you see the side and the stuff hanging out the back and you can hide most of it if it is recessed....See MoreEntertainment Center - Custom Built or buy off the shelf?
Comments (8)While I have nothing against Wayfair, it's not where I'd look for a significant focal point of your family room. In our area, having something custom built will mean a wait of at least a year and likely longer. There are also some big differences in quality of workmanship among the few custom furniture builders, and most focus on rustic looking pieces that would be at home in a fishing cabin. One retailer that may offer what you'd like is Room and Board. https://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/custom/cabinets https://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/living/media-cabinets Their custom pieces may still take 6 - 9 months while their other media cabinets may be available as soon as 3 months. Much of their furniture is made in PA, VT, NC and other US locations. In a lower price range, due to mostly being imports, are the contemporary media units offered by CB2. The store generally provides the Country of Origin in the product details. https://www.cb2.com/furniture/media-consoles/1?sortBy=priceHighToLow Good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
