Comments (17)i would make it the kids' toy area/playroom if you have young kids and want to keep their toys out of the family room... obviously set up storage/toy boxes/easel, etc in area that isn't visible from doorways! if you have kids and they're alittle older and the house doesn't have a basement that you'd be going down to, it seems a good size for a pingpong table! we had a basement full of assorted game tables, and pingpong was by far the favorite! but, foozball could work too. either table could fit in the fireplace area and not be seen from the other room when looking straight on... if you don't have kids, i would probably set it up as an excercise area if you don't belong to a gym......See MoreLooking to create a British men's living/sitting room
Comments (10)Sources to google for ideas and inspiration: John Soanes' house in London. Also check out movies like Gosford Park and mini-series like BBC's "Jeeves & Wooster" or "Rosemary & Thyme" or the old series of "Sherlock Holmes" Let's see: A gentleman's study or library would be lined with dark bookcases (with a rolling ladder) filled with books; a fireplace with real logs and a proper fender; old portraits and an old mirror over the fireplace mantel. There would be old maps and botanical prints -- along with old prints of wild animals from around the world. There would be "interesting" collections -- like a grouping of old tortoiseshell boxes and silver frames with photos of the "ancestors" A comfortable sofa (maybe a leather chesterfield) with a couple of leather chairs sharing an ottoman (maybe covered with an animal-skin fabric like zebra or leopard) flanking the fireplace. A good worn old area rug like a Heriz. Lots of lamps around the room -- and lots of tables and a desk. A bar suitably stocked; a tray on top to hold a decanter, an ice bucket and a silver cocktail shaker and its stirrer. Tiny bottles of club soda and ginger ale would be stashed in the cabinet. Sometimes bottles of liquor are kept on top - or stashed in the cabinet. Decanters are brought into the room when serving up snifters of brandy or a schooner of sherry. Don't forget a lovely platter of cheeses, grapes/sliced apples/pears and water crackers. Also a box of very nice chocolates to be passed around the room. Comments (35)Rubyclaire, Here is the recipe for the sparkling rose punch. I make an ice ring with a Tupperware plastic mold and put frozen orange slices, frozen lime slices and cherries for color. 1 bottle (fifth) of rose 1 cup lemon juice 1 cup Triple Sec or Curacao 1 bottle sparkling water (23 or 28 oz) 2 bottles champagne Frozen orange wedges or frozen ice ring with fruit Pour rose, lemon juice and orange liqueur over a block (or ring) of ice. As guests arrive, add sparkling water and champagne. Add frozen orange wedges as garnish and to keep punch chilled. Hints: I have had good luck using extra dry champagne (Le Domain extra dry). Freixenet semi-seco works well too. Chill all ingredients well ahead of time so your ice ring doesn’t melt. I hope you enjoy it. I have a really old punch bowl and cups that hang on the side which I use when I make this. But any cups will do! Happy planning and counting down the days.........See Morewhat to do with this awkward room? lounge? library? game room?
Comments (5)too bad you cant change the bathroom door entry to enter from the den -- the house and kitchen look too small to accommodate a decent size table unless you rarely entertain and have a small family - Its really about how you will be "living" in the house and the space you need-- if you dont need a dining area then convert to a nice sitting room with a bar....See MoreRelated Professionals
