Really want to keep our fridge…

TLDR: What can I do to this wall to make the fridge feel built in and kind of cover the electrical panels?

So we bought a new fridge with a Black Friday bundle deal, but I’d really like to be able to keep our old fridge as its only a few years old and I’m sure we’ll need the food storage down the line.

It makes the most sense to me to put it in our basement gym, but I’d like to give it a built-in feel. And I’ve been planning on covering up the electrical panels anyway (while still leaving access obviously).

To the right of where the fridge is temporarily placed right now, there’s an access panel that also needs to remain relatively accessible (being able to pull the fridge out is accessible enough)

Ignore the haphazard placement of the gym equipment.

Appreciate your ideas!

Maybe put the white shelves beneath the panels and see how that wall looks with the fridge -

FWIW for our second fridge, I found a stainless steel topped island (on wheels) that was the exact length between the fridge and the wall — it didn’t look built in but the fridge no longer looked like it was awkwardly floating in the room

Why? Because you have no drawing with the dimensions of the space, showing the entry.....and whatever white shelving and ALL pertinent. Including dimensions and clearance for the Peleton/whatever

As is and a built in look? Probably no to that.

Keeping the electrical accessible and covered with the 'fridge?????? How much do you feel it's worth? Sure you could make an entire wall of built ins, built around the 'fridge put a pretend cupboard door in front of the electrical panel so it stays truly accessible--but why? IT'S A GYM!! You must have better things to do with your time/money.

You are wrong about "no ants ". In most instances, they are benign and probably beneficial. It does depend on the type of ant and the population. I never recommend the broadcasting of DE as an appropriate control of ants or anything else. As a matter of fact, you may very well end up with more ants than you started with. Indiscriminate use of DE can harm the natural populations of predator arthropods and other beneficial creatures that inhabit the soil. That's the last thing you want to do. Is your product a horticultural/food grade or something sold for pool filtering? Pool filter stuff is useless for controlling pests and can be dangerous to broadcast in your garden. I am curious, where did you get the idea that no ants should be allowed in the yard? Ants may take advantage of honeydew-producing insects, but few species move them around or increase their numbers. They are attracted to the sugary excrement, but so what? If you seem to have an abundance of ants, I suggest that you concentrate on pest control (aphid, whitefly) by strongish sprays of water, insecticidal soap. If you have a problem with fire ants, there are organic bait products available. Trying to eliminate every ant will almost certainly result in an imbalance in the garden....to the advantage of pests.

I'm impressed, Mustangs---you're quite the expert at repurposing things. I've done that a few times, but I've also run into problems from time to time (i.e., label that simply will not come off cleanly, despite using all the techniques I know to try to get them off). I really like those large letter decals. I use my P-touch to label some things in spray bottles (i.e., to distinguish between vinegar/water mix and alcohol/water mix), but the large letters are much better because you can see instantly which is which and don't have to pick up a bottle and closely examine it to see which it is. Maybe I can find some large letters such as what people sometimes use on their mailboxes and apply those instead---not as attractive as your decals, but certainly more functional than the small labels.

Came here this morning and found my post had totally fallen off the radar scope. lol Thank you very much for responding.....and good to know I'm not the only one with this problem! Right about now I Don't care how attractive or unattractive a solution looks....I am just tired of walking by the fridge and seeing that area get darker and darker each time I walk by. I understand your solution about putting a paper towel over the tray and as soon as I get the tray soaked and put back today, that's what I'll do. But I don't quite understand the Zip-Lock bag creating a slide for the water? Do you tape the zip-lock bag to the back of the paddle? If not, how do I make sure the zip-lock doesn't get in the way of the water coming out? OK, do you happen to have a pic of your solution? :) This morning when I went to pour my cuppa, I seriously thought about scrubbing all the areas really well and then coating them with WaterLock or some other sealer. I didn't get to the tray/dispenser area other day and this morning it looks really nasty...yuck. I'm thinking that guests popping in (which they do quite often to visit my Mom and Dad) won't even want to use the dispenser thinking that I've never, ever cleaned it...that's how bad it looks after a few days.

GE S X S fridge no longer keeping temp in either side

I have a GE S X S fridge, approx. 16 years ol that has done well until recently. It stopped making ice, which did not bother me. I now no longer keeps things frozen in the freezer or cold in the fridge. I have a new FD LG that I am using, but had hope to continue using this one until my remodel was done. It was my thought that it was dirty under the fridge, but I have thoroughly cleaned it inside and out and it continues to not keep temp. Any thoughts? I really don't want to call for repair if it is a major thing as it is an old fridge and I do have a replacement that I have put into service early. I just hate to junk it if it is something relatively minor and inexpensive. TIA

Can the white bin unit be moved to the left side of the refrigerator? If not, get something similar to go there and fill the wall space. I would paint those white access panels on the wall the same as the wall color. Hang some fun art above the bin unit. Put a couple nice storage bins on top of fridge to fill in the gap. Extra bonus would be having a mini drink bar for that area next to the fridge.

built in, or not, you could get one or two of those stand alone closet/pantry fixtures and use the space for kitchen or household overflow. A place to keep the big sofa sized packs of tP from Costco, and that extra big cooking pot, etc. Make it kind of a nice and organized area with a fridge and with doors to hide the stuff behind.

I have an extra fridge in the garage just off the kitchen. It is all fridge, no freezer and it has been invaluable over the years .I also have a basic cabinet with doors out there and it has become like an extension of the kitchen . My kitchen is tiny.

But yours in the basement might not be as handy.

You need some better and softer lighting in that space .It looks so cold and dark. It almost has a feel as if the room is closing in. Maybe it is because it is all dark with dark floors and dark walls. It makes me feel claustrophobic just to look at it!

Keep the fridge! Why discard perfectly good things?

I see no point in a built in look for a fridge in a gym. It actually sort of belomngs there and builing something to house it will mkae it worse. The gym is not a public space so workout have a nice cold drink and done.. What you really need is a big mirror if you work out with weights and maybe even a TV much better use of money than the fridge cabinet IMO

I have a batik wall hangings covering my electrical panel. It's light and hanging from a tiny hook above the panel, so very easy to remove. You can also paint your panel to match your wall or put wallpaper on it.

For your fridge to look built-in you need cabinetry next to it.

Really want to keep our fridge…
