Don't really understand the question -- I mean, lay it on the floor, heh. If this is long boards, the they are usually run perpendicular to the joists. If you have a solid subfloor, then it's just which way you like the look of, given your specific rooms.

What type of floor is your current floor? Is it LVP? If yes, first concern may be to match thickness i.e. 8mm, 12, mm. U may are already done this in ur search.

If the loose pc is the color available currently next to what you have they do not look good at all next to each other. I would change out the existing and lay new ALL the same as attempting to match and or make one vinyl or laminate next to a different color one will always look off.

Millworkman, I’m wondering what you would suggest if replacing all floors weren’t in the budget?

Tile or Slate Tile look laminate or vinyl, nothing wood look. Make it look like a different floor entirely and not like an obvious miss.

I don’t like the two together either, but it’s not awful. Personally I don’t mind carpet in bedrooms; it’s nice on bare feet. Does the carpet need to be replaced right now, or is it just your preference to replace it now?

IMO bedroom floors are often different than the rest of the house since they often have carpet. The match is not great but IMO better than wall to wall carpet .

I think a contrast would look a lot better than "close, but obviously not a match". We have hardwood in the living, dining, kitchen, sun room - but tile in the bathrooms, carpet in the bedrooms, and carpet on the stairs. I don't think there's anything wrong with a different floor in the bedroom (though heed Cindy's advice about the height).
