Where to put clips for frameless glass shower panels?

We have a rectangular curbless shower which has walls on three sides. The long open side is about 92” wide and the ceiling is about 90” high, and we are planning to have two fixed glass panels of 30” wide on one side all the way up to the ceiling and an opening with no door of 32” wide on the other side. We are not considering one big glass panel of 60” wide due to the limitation of the elevator. In the price quote for the job, the salesman included 8 clips. When the glass installer came to do the site measure, he said 4 clips would be enough with two clips on the top of each glass panel, and no clips would be needed for the bottom or the wall where he will just put silicone. My husband and I thought it would be safer to have clips at both the top and bottom of the panels and we guessed the salesman shared the same view and included 8 clips in the price quote. The installer said he could put clips at the bottom if we prefer, but insisted that 4 clips at the top is safe and secure enough and he would just do it this way if it was for his own place. Cost is not an issue here. We are not sure if we should go with 4 or 8 clips. Would you please share your thoughts, experience, and professional knowledge? Thank you in advance.

No panels to the ceiling unless this is to become somehow a steam shower and if you want help we need pics of he plan for sure

Thanks folks- We got the fixed panel installed today, and it looks great. Man it was stressful though!!! I think I drove poor DH crazy with having to stop every few minutes to carefully think through the next step, and arrange wood/towels/bubblewrap on every hard surface in sight! But its in, plumb and square and looks great. UNFORTUNATELY........ the fabricator seems to have sent the wrong hinges for the door. They seem to be the self-closing 90-degree type, and we needed the adjustable ones for the angled door. Of course they are closed until Tuesday, argh!! (This after they also forgot the setting blocks -which I luckily was able to find at a glass store that was open on Saturdays- so I am not sure I will recommend them. We'll see how they handle the hinge thing. Maybe we are just not seeing how they'd adjust, but I dont think so...) Anyway, I should have been showering in my new shower tonight, but looks like I will have to wait another week! On the plus side- we did not upgrade to Starfire glass (it wasn't offered and I did not think to ask) and after reading about it on GW here, I was worried about the green glass color, but it turns out it looks really, really great with the other palette in the room :) Tomorrow: vanity install! lennym: let me see how this company handles the hinge issue and then I'll post about them. They were the cheapest online vendor I found; maybe in this case you get what you pay for? They've been responsive and helpful thus far, though, and I know they are in the process of moving their showroom this weekend, so it may be a one-time honest mistake...

Well, I'm back... Thank you for your input guys, you're the bestest of the best! For the past week, I've been trying to get glass installers to come see the job. Some said flat no, too busy this time of year. Some made appointments they did not keep. (don't you just hate that!) And some quoted outrageous prices over the phone without bothering to even come see the job site or even know what I wanted. They just asked the dimension of the shower and quoted on the square footage, some as high as $125 per s.f. Puh-leaze!!! Frankly, I am a bit discouraged. This part of the project, I would rather not do by myself. Let alone handling large heavy panes of glass, I am nervous about drilling into my nice marble tiles to install clips. I would just crumble into a pile of dust if I were to snap one in the process... Maybe I'll go directly to plan B and install a circular rod and a curtain... (Now...where to find a nickel plated circular curtain rod...)

I would go with the clips, in my opinion they look much better than the channel. I would also ask them about "mini clips" (essentially about 2" pcs of channel) as they will be even more unobtrusive.

Silicone with clips on frameless shower panel?

Why is it a bad idea? What are the potential consequences? Also, do you have a recommendation for a "proper product"? I clean the shower, including along the silicone, every weekend. I don't think that's an unreasonable frequency. I should also note that I misspoke when I said mold/mildew, it's actually that pink bacteria gunk that's growing along the edges of the silicone. Every week I clean what's on the surface of the silicone, but it's getting between the silicone and glass and the silicone and tile as well.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting Thank you for your comment. Initially we did not like the idea of having panel to the ceiling, but all the trades we have spoken with thought we should have it all the way up to the ceiling because we have a very low ceiling of just 86", not 90" as mentioned earlier. Both our contractor and the installer do not think there will be any moisture issue with ceiling high glass panel because we have a no-door design with a 32" wide opening, and a quite powerful exhaust fan on the ceiling of the shower at the entrance (not captured in the photo). I have attached a photo of the shower here. Please share your thoughts on whether we should put clips on the top of the panel only, or the bottom as well. Thanks again.

@BeverlyFLADeziner Thank you for the pics. I have U channels to support the shower panels in my present place which was done 15 years ago. The installer said they do not use U channels quite as often as clips nowadays because clips have a more modern look and most people prefer having less metal or hardware in frameless and curb-less shower design. The shower design in the first photo you posted is really nice. With clips on both the top and the bottom of the side panel and not on the wall, it creates a clean and balanced look. The shelves for shampoo on the sides behind the shower column is an amazing design. It is a lot more functional and tidy than the shower niche design. I wish I had thought about it earlier in our reno. Thanks again.
