Is there hardwood underneath the carpet? If so, I'd refinish the hardwood and extend it to the tile area near the door rather than put in tile. You can put a mat in front of the door for foot wiping/removing shoes.

@Sabrina, sadly no original wood. This house was built in 1963. This is the only room that has never had the original wood. Unfortunately, I have natural hickory out one entrance into my kitchen area, and oak into the tiny hallway from the 60’s. That’s why I’m putting carpet back in. I should also probably clarify; this room will likely only be for sitting and talking as a family with enough seating for all of us, with the rare time my husband wants to watch something different from me, or if reading is taking place. It’s not the main living room. I’ve tried convincing my husband to turn it into a dining room, but I got a big fat no on that one. So, living space it is. It needs to be comfortable and meld with my rustic tastes in the other room. I assume when you say ‘dense’ that you mean heavy and too big for the space? If so, yep. I agree 100%. These things worked when it was our only living room, but not anymore. My thread called ‘I Could Use Some Backsplash Help’ has my new addition in it so photos are there. I love these inspiration photos, thanks!

Potential inspiration lamps with the bluish/turquoise. As I recall @Flo, you thought these (the darker ones) were too tall. I can’t guarantee DH will spring for new ones, but if he will, I love these!

I am wondering what 'Shaw Toasty" carpet means?

If this is generally a conversation room, do you need that much other furniture? you mentioned you need storage, for what? With the 'dense' furniture I would consider painting the walls a color very similar to the new carpet color. Edit the furniture, and find a larger piece of art with your favored Aqua in it.

The carpet is Shaw, color is Toasty. I have eliminated the big entertainment center and basically everything in this room and am starting over. All those things are dates. That said, the EC had stereo components and I stored other things in the drawers. These things have to go somewhere, so thus, the need for some storage. I have SW Navajo White on the walls and am considering painting the two SW Blonde walls back to that. I just want the room nice and cozy for family. We were all in this room over Thanksgiving and there wasn’t enough seating without someone on the floor.

Hi @lisedv! I will have a TV, yes. That is not the main entrance, no. There used to be a window in the 9 foot inlet, and previous owner took it out because they put a piano there. I will have a new entrance door there at some point to let more light into the room, something like in the photo. We also will be replacing windows at some point in the old part of the house (this section is part of that). There’s a slight chance I could get a window back in that inlet, but it’s a less than 50/50 chance and leans towards no. Plan is to knock down the tile space by one 12” tile and redo in slate (which I have leftover from the previous project), carpet the rest.

Did I understand correctly that you are keeping the Shaw carpet in the Toasty colour?

Well, new carpet is coming in that is Shaw in the Toasty color. It looks nothing like this in the photo, and I’d try to snap a photo, but the installer took my sample!

Please change up the entry table. Your room needs a vertical wall element. Overlap the position of the pillar candles.

Eliminate the entertainment unit. There is no reason to have that huge piece in this room.

Taking into consideration you are to have the wall to wall carpet in Toasty colour, that your walls are in SW Navajo white, and that you mention you need more seating (I counted you presently have 6 seats including the ottoman). My suggestions illustrated below include:

- Keeping the sofa in front of the window because of the traffic flow (shown in a white dotted line

- I'm suggesting a sofa and loveseat, 2 armchairs, and 2 small ottomans (just for extra seating) giving you a total of 9 seats I went with a beige and navy blue theme in a rustic style you want.

- A large coffee table and 2 end table with lamps

- A floor lamp next to the loveseat

- Picture ledge for your family photos above the loveseat (all same model of frame preferable with white matting). The ledge allows you to easily replace the photos.

- Keeping a sideboard with a lamp and decor

- A narrow TV console facing the 3-seater sofa

@lisedv, these are great ideas! That took a lot of time and I appreciate it! I’ll be visiting my favorite furniture store soon, and I’m hoping to find what I’m looking for. I’ve always had a couch backed up to that big window, but a loveseat hadn’t occurred to me!

Great advice already - just a plug for table lamps with more heft, I think the ones you posted are too delicate for the scale of the furnishings in the room - my fav lamp is the Serena from Room & Board, comes in several colors - nicely made

Thanks la_la Girl! Yes, basically every piece of furniture in this room is going. I’m starting over with a fresh slate. Even my carpet doesn’t lean that same more gold color. I appreciate you taking the time to look at the thread and post!
