I purchased the dd603 apx 4-5 yrs ago apx$1300 and here is my experience. I use the machine apx 2x a week The first problem I had was that I pre washed some dishes before putting in the dishwasher and if any of the normal detergent got into the machine it caused the F1 error, so now I make sure I rinse well before putting in dishwasher. People have asked why I pre rinse some items before putting in dishwasher and the answer is i dont believe these models do well with heavily soiled items. The hoses are small and can get clogged the impellors are not tough on the discharge motor and can get damaged this is evidenced by many forum posts on different sites. The 2nd problem I had was due to putting an item that was to tall which prevented the lids from closing and causing the dreaded F1 code. I did purchase the extended warranty and when the tech came he told me what happened he also replaced all the common problems with this model faulty actuator motors and linkages which would have been a very expensive bill according to him over $400. Now I am on my 3rd problem which is the dreaded F1 code on both units and I have no leak so seems to be the flood sensor and board about $50 and hopefully no further damage do to the fact the machine had the motors going for many hours when I wasn't home before I turned the breaker off. This is my first dishwasher and bought mostly for looks and dual drawers seemed like a good idea. If one went bad the other should still work that is not the case at all. In all cases if there was a problem it took out both drawers. Conclusion If I was a heavy user of a washing machine I would never buy this machine again I dont believe they are designed for the American market and it feels like they have to be used carefully (which I have done) My ex girlfriend has a kitchen Aid purchased the same time mine was bought not sure which model and it has worked flawlessly She does not pre rinse uses it heavily and throws dishes with all kinds of crud on it something I would never do with the DD603 That being said the newest model dd605 supposedly has addressed many of the issues the previous models have had and if you are a careful user and like the idea of 2 drawers they might be your best bet. Repairs are expensive so the extended warranty should be looked at. In my case it paid off and still has problems outside the extended warranty period

I have run across complaints about the Kenmore drawers (and yes, the F&P units as well). Dishwashers tend to be somewhat "personal" appliances, operated under a very wide range of conditions (people who prerinse, people who don't; hard water conditions and soft water conditions; gel/liquid detergents vs. powdered detergents; people who use rinse aid and those who refuse; etc.). There'll always be both complaints and raves about every brand and model on the market.

The Frigidaire FPID/FGID and Electrolux EI24ID/EW24ID (including the 50QS) are brand new and seem to be a redesign from the ground up. Electrolux did not have a great reputation for dishwashers in the past; owners complained of poor washability and reliability. However, it's very possible this new line is great and exactly what they needed. You certainly won't find any user reviews at this point, though. If you buy one, let us know what you think! The only real "proven" dishwashers on the market right now are Maytag and the Euro manufacturers Bosch, Miele, and Asko. Although Maytag is a Whirlpool brand, they still use the previous generation Point Voyager tall tub wash system that works well. Whirlpool has transitioned the rest of their brands including KA to the "Global Wash System" which supposedly is quieter and uses less water but is unproven. GE and Electrolux/Frigidaire just introduced complete redesigns, presumably because their previous offerings weren't so great. Those are also unproven.

Well, it looks like I am the newest member of the disgruntled KA wall oven owner club. Ran the self clean cycle on our 1 year old, still under warranty, KA wall oven. 3 hours into the cycle I noticed that there were no indicator lights on the control panel - the oven was dead and the door was locked. I waited a few hours to allow the oven to cool down and followed the web-based procedures to unlock the door but nothing has worked. I've flipped the breaker off, waited several minutes and flipped it back on (did this a few times believing each time that something magical would happen) but the oven is still locked and nothing works. Finally, I called KA/Whirlpool and waited 45 minutes to speak to someone in customer service. After patiently waiting I was finally connected. We spent some time verifying that my oven was still under warranty (with 5 days to spare!) and documenting my problem. Once it was determined that she could not resolve the problem with weasel words I was told that it would be 2 weeks before a repairman could come. When I politely but firmly protested she transferred me to a technical representative who also was unable to resolve my issue but did confirm the 2 week lead time for the service call. I am now in the waiting period with a locked oven door. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to unlock it beyond the breaker on-off trick, I welcome your input. I will continue with chapter 2 once our repairman arrives.
