What highly charged posts..I was hoping to find some accurate information regarding filtration for my organic edible garden but I think I'll rely on my instincts instead. Example: after it rains the next day my garden is thriving...when I water with the tap water from our house...although it doesn't kill my plants I do notice that it doesn't dramatically help them either, the way the non chlorinated rainwater did. Most organic gardeners that I've met are "organic" according to I guess Gov. standards (laughable), but no where near as strict as I consider organic should be. Take organic to the true level of organic...think permaculture...the way nature designed organic to be...every organism has its place and job description...all the way down to the soil. The real reason why we even chlorinate to begin with is because we are recycling our pee/poo water....pee and poo are naturally filtered through organic matter found in nature but since we live in/near cities we need to recycle it quicker. So what do we do? Dump chlorine & then try to take it out. Technically we should get the majority of our water needs from water rich fruit and rain water. Also, the consumption of grain increase our need for drinking water unnecessarily. I have done experiments to test this...eat mostly grains and see how thirsty you are compared to mostly eating fruits. The difference is astounding. I'm an athlete and we monitor the way our bodies and performance is effected by different foods, and even the timing of eating different foods. Most people in this country think they are hungry when in reality they are dehydrated and lacking in nutrients (both of which could be found in fruits and vegetables). Ok, end rant. Now off to buy a filter since I live in the city...

I have an RO system that feeds the following: SZ refrigerator, Brizo prep sink pot filler, Brizo main sink aux. faucet, Charlie's Greenhouse plant water wand, HydroFogger humidifier, Waterstone solid brass aux. faucet at bar sink. Some of these are plastic or stainless steel and not at risk in any case. I am not in fear that any of the others will be damaged because I have tested my water and, post filtration, it is still slightly alkaline. I believe that this is probably due to Government requirements on public water systems that they be made significantly alkaline to avoid lead leaching. Because RO systems, even with the best membranes, are only about 98% efficient, some alkalinity is still present. What would I have done if it had tested acidic, as it might have if my water supply came from a well, and I were using dubious brass faucets? I would have added a post filter cannister specifically designed to buffer the water to be slightly alkaline. Although I can't find an example at the moment at SpectraPure, I know that they are out there somewhere as I looked them up while waiting for my PH tester to arrive a couple of years ago. Whether even acidic RO water would have any effect on your specific Waterstone faucet is something you should ask Waterstone. kas

Residential pools really don't gain a lot with ozone. The gallonage is too small, the turnover too slow usually, and bather load too light. On a 250,000 commercial facility, the situation is usually a bit different because the scale and ozone can be a significant assist for sanitation. Clear Vision, rings a bell and I can't for the life of me remember why. I think its what some special N2 cartridge name. It still add metal ions, usually copper and silver, neither of which has the quick kill time of chlorine. I am not a fan as it does little and cartridges cost you once or twice a year. If Clear Vision is an electronic device that doesn't produce chlorine or bromine, watch out. the products may add copious amount of copper, to the point of staining, create hydrogen peroxide, which only effects the return flow from the filter. Did you know that it takes more than 4 turns of the pool's water to have filtered all the water at least once? That's once in a few days for exposing the water to the peroxide. A lot of things can happen to water from the time it was exposed to the peroxide till it is return, up to 3 days later.In the mean time, the water is in the pool with only, is some copper ions, which help some against algae but does next to nothing against any pathogens. The underlying reason a PB may offer these systems and then play the warranty game is profit. If he says he won't recommend using a salt cell, suggest he learn to build a better pool and show him the door. Scott

Citrus would not be a good choice because of its relatively long life cycle. A vegetable would be better. I don't know what type of selective pressure one would use. If one were found, I image the seeds would need to be mutagenized probably with ionizing radiation.
