Last few days of November and the first start of December week 1?
Comments (47)Wow, Larry, that was quite a day. No wonder you're exhausted. I would be too! Moni, condolences on the passing of your friend. It was a beautiful day yesterday. Not so much today. It's okay, though, it is December after all. I will wait until after Christmas to order seed. If I miss out, I'll just use what I already have. The thought of sorting through seed and making decisions regarding seed purchases, makes me feel stressed. Too much to remember right now and plenty to do. Both jobs will keep me very busy for the next couple of weeks and then all the holiday things, which I love (no complaints). I want to fully enjoy them without stress. And I want to rest a little more. By 8:30 pm, I'm sitting down and resting. For the most part. I was up early this morning to do my work out and feed everyone and then headed out to do some shopping mostly for two parties this weekend. I had 9 gift bags to put together and couldn't find stuff easily in the stores. It was a little stressful because the stores are packed. Normally I don't mind busy stores in December because in some ways, it's cheerful and reminds me of earlier times. But, today I'm on a bit of a schedule and have actually scheduled THIS hour to rest. All the holiday candy for this weekend was finished last night, so that is good. And the 9 gift bags are finished now. I just have one more gift to wrap for "Dirty Santa". And one more appetizer to make. Amy, I'll check out the Yaupon Holly. I need to pay attention and see how much sun that area does get. It must get some because of the annuals that have lived there. I'm sorry about your lack of excitement for things. Maybe the new year will bring some excitement (in a good way) to you. I might shut my eyes for a few minutes. Naps are exciting to me. I'm a pretty boring person, though....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/14/2024
Comments (14)I think it would depend on the practice and the group of people. For a smaller group, maybe ask around for a cash donation and put it in a card? If she can't teach, maybe ask others to still pay a couple class fees to keep her going? It's hard to know, but I'm sure you have a feel for the group. I am back - just in time for cold and snow. It was so nice to be in the warmth where I could walk eveyr morning and walk to and from dinner. My watch charger broke in the middle, so I didn't track, but according to DS's phone, we averaged about 15,000 steps a day. I came back at the same weight I left, so that's good. I have a month at home before our next trip, and I am going to really try to buckle down with the strength training and healthy eating. I think I'm going to wear a CGM for the month to see how I'm doing and keep me more accountable. It's usually motivating for me. As soon as the roads are clear, I will go to the grocery. It's definitely soup weather here!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/28/2024
Comments (16)Sorry for everyone who is dealing with illnesses. It is so difficult to keep on track when stuff comes up. Gscience you have my admiration for focusing on your exercises. For many years with my physical struggles I used my health problems as an excuse. No more. As far as I'm concerned never again. But I really do believe we all have to decide for ourselves whether we are going to struggle with this or use our energy for something else. I hope this procedure you have done was helpful and took care of the problem. Hugs to you. Hugs to everyone. For me it's the cold I had for two and a half weeks. It has finally loosened it's hold on me. Also the stupid migraines. B2 vitamins seem to be taking the edge off so hopefully they will work as well as the flax oil did that took my migraines away completely for those 5 years. Exercise is going well. I am generally sticking to it. I do the exercises three times a week but I also don't do it exactly on the same day some weeks. Yesterday I was playing catch up for Wednesday's exercise day. I will likely fudge it and do it later tonight for my Friday so I don't have to do those kind of exercises on Saturday and Sunday. I truly love my weekends off. So in general with the exercises intermittent fasting and trying to get a handle on my health things are working. I have to watch my cheese intake darn it. I love cheese. It settles nicely on my hips.. Best to everyone! Have a great weekend! I do think of you often; I'm just not a very good writer.. still know that I'm here sometimes way too silently supporting you all....See MoreJune week 1 , 2024
Comments (45)Larry, the aphids are on the micro dwarf plants that I got from Jen and the Hardins Miniature that I started from seed. The dwarf ones from you are in the hoop house raised bed. So far they're healthy. All of the micro dwarf plants are absolutely loaded with dozens of fruit. They are thick little plants with tons of fruit that grows inside and below the foliage. It's just sad. Josh, for us, it is anything pea that gets mostly destroyed by aphids. I love sugar peas and snow peas, but it's pointless to grow them....although Rick put English peas in the SG and they did considerably well. Maybe, that part of the garden's ecosystem is improving. Even long noodle beans were destroyed by aphids a couple of years ago. Maybe someday I'll try them again. Normally, tomatoes get aphids here, but recover quickly. Perhaps this being a new veggie area is the issue??? Sorry about your melons. What types of melons have you tried? I love that you are able to get red cabbage! I've never had success with it. I'll need to try that variety. I hate hot weather too. It's what makes me look for other places to live every summer. LOL I do have a kid in Oregon. Hmmm..... If I had the ability financially, I seriously would live in Oregon during the summers in a "granny pod" in my son's future house. Tend a little garden there. And then live here the rest of the year--close to my daughter. That's a huge dream of mine. That's a great idea, Glenda! Shower curtain rings. I'll have to try that once my cucumbers hopefully get big enough to climb the trellis. Seems like several of us have aphid issues. Dawn never did. It's funny that you mentioned carrots. I pulled my fall carrots. They're always ready the NEXT season from when I planted them. So weird. I left a little too long. I knew that were ready a month ago. I still managed to get some use from them. Carrots are a thing. I'm going to try them in the Vego beds this fall. The peppers loved the rain and are really loading up with fruit. I'm so thankful for this after two bad pepper years. Sugar Rush Peach. Wow. I ate one tonight. It wasn't peach colored yet...just yellow. Even so, it was hot, but the after taste was like a peach jolly rancher. I'm a fan and need to figure out what to do with them. It's one of the ones that's new to me this year. Rick planted cowpeas tonight. The SG is fully planted now, other than a few cantaloupe that will go in once the english peas are pulled. That's all for me....See MoreRelated Professionals
