foyer dilemma.

Took out a large aquarium in foyer. Don’t know what to replace it with. The room has a huge fireplace and two story ceiling wit cypress open stair case. Very important to do the right thing. Trying to keep space open as much as possible because fireplace overwhelms the space. The mantle is a 1/2 cypress tree.

I need to see whaere this waas removed . IMO if you want to open it get MUCH better lighting take the plants off that ledge and IMO all thta darl not matching trim is too much wood. I do not see the FP so show us that . Post the new pics in a comment here DO NOT start another post /

You're not showing us the items you reference.

Take out the stone base.

Reconfigure the closet so there are no angles in the room

I like the idea of a lighter wall color, just make sure it blends with the tile. Your trim and doors seem to be two different shades of white, I would make them the same color. Will the entry table stay? Is this a separate foyer or combined with a living room? It'd be nice to see the whole area in context. Agree the Sputnik is too modern. What you have now is more of an up-light shining towards the ceiling, which brings the focus to the wonderful cobwebs up there-lol! Cleaning that fixture and changing those light bulbs are not fun, I know from experience. I would look for something that will disperse light better and not be such a dust collector. :)

Yeah, it was admittedly kind of tough to find examples of foyers with large-scale lights repeating down the length of the room. Nevertheless, especially with the very "airy" look of the chandelier you have in mind and how far away each of them will be from one another, I think you should be OK to use two to make a big statement!

@Teresa F - Love your DR paneling and chair rail. I feel your pain, I had exactly the same challrnge but because we DIY’ed the painting, having a contractor awaiting my decision was not an issue. We bought a sheet of drywall, primed it then cut into smaller squares, maybe 18”. I had quarts of several colors mixed and painted them onto individual drywall panels. Doing this enabled me to transport colors around the room in day/night, sun/cloudy lighting for several days. I compared with flooring and furniture too. You can also apply color options onto the walls. You’ll get there.

I agree with Beverly that the closet and stone base seem detrimental as is. Do you want to keep them, change them, or adorn them? Does the ruggedness of the stone fit with the home and your taste? And I agree that context is needed: additional photos, your color preferences, your style preferences.

I'll add that carpet seems inappropriate in a foyer. Something like a large-format tile or honed stone would be better. You'd want a matte finish floor, not high gloss nor rough like the stone you show. A charcoal grey would really show off the wood grain. I noticed you have several black accents. Can you post a photo of the wall sculpture in the stairs?
