Reasonably priced wall art/ideas for large open stairway wall

I am seeking opinions for a minimalist/simple (might not be the correct term)/abstract look that is reasonably priced for this large open area leading to the finished basement. It does face the SW, so gets afternoon sun as visible in the picture. It is central in the house (in the great room/open kitchen) so very visible. The window length is 72 inches. Other furniture is mostly neutral, floors are medium brown wood. I've considered ideas such as angling pieces of artwork and also about mixing abstract painting/artwork with framed wood pieces to add dimension. I've looked at artwork on Etsy, West Elm, Pottery Barn type sites so far. Trying to decide if/how whatever goes there needs to be centered, and also how to calculate the total size of the space the pieces should cover. Thank you.

MY first thought is get some solar shades on those windows before the sun ruins your floors. I have no idea of your style but why not wallpaper? Or even a mural. As for art Art.com has great selection often in different sizes too. I ahve never been a lover of a mixed wall of pics and frames .

This is a mural you could even do this with paint

I had never considered wallpaper, I am going to explore that more. Also, appreciate your suggestion about the solar shades.

Not sure your original selection is the right item for your fireplace. The fireplace is long and narrow, so why add a piece of art that is a rectangle, inside a rectangle, inside a rectangle placed on a rectangle. You need some movement on this wall. Maybe a triptych of framed art, maybe a selection of three dimensional items, maybe a selection of round primitive baskets, maybe a twig sculpture with some movement. Get creative. Think outside the box.

Here ya go, Doonie. I used some fabric from my stash, something I loved and had intended to use in the last house. Given the color, and that this house feels smaller, I thought that isolating the orange in the stairway would be a safe bet. I see it all the time, and get to enjoy the fabric, but I don;t have to force it to play nice with anything else. The rod is set way above the window casing. I told my seamstress to just make the panels as long as she could. The shade is a very affordable discovery from Amazon. They are by Top Blinds -- custom sizes at off-the-shelf prices. The perspective is off in the photo...the rod is actually somewhat lower than the wood gate. I think this WT does a nice job filling up the empty space of the double-height stairway.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I would like all the furniture pieces to stay in the room, plus no other spot in the home for them. I am going to move the dresser under the window and move the chest of drawers to the wall where the dresser currently is and see how that looks and feels. TV may have to go as it is rarely used anyway. Not having a mirror over the dresser will be a change for me, lol. neverbedone - thanks for the picture, it really takes care of the space below the window and looks nice and neat. Olychick - Could I used draperies that match the current color of my Roman shades? I do want to keep them as they let light into a drab north/east room. Mrs S. - You are right, moving the chest of drawers would definitely give us some extra space when walking into the room and in front of the bed. TV not used much and it may go out of the room. RITA - Not looking for actually suggestions for art, just sizes and a pleasing placement on the wall. If I move the furniture pieces as suggested above, I may be able to also hang a piece above the chest of drawers. Again, thanks for all your suggestions, they have opened my eyes to new possibilities with the room.

I have no help to add about the art but I do love the colorful rug @celery showed I the last post. Something dramatic with that gorgeous green in it will tie the room together. Your dining table is stunning! And the green chairs are a happy surprise ( most dining rooms have all chairs the same).

I dunno. I always feel like these mass produced art pieces make your home feel like you live in a generic hotel lobby. Go to art fairs in your area. Buy a print or a painting you really love and have it framed. Yes, it won't be cheap, but it will look so much better and reflect your personality.

Alternatively, you could find a textile hanging to put there, or even a modern quilt.

I, too, would recommend a quilt. Some old ones look very modern and abstract.
