Not sure why you changed the rug. The new rug is traditional and the old one was contemporary. The chairs look ok with the new rug, but I don't care for the gray sofa against the beige.

Agree, not a great fit style/color wise (at least in picture), but it depends on the feel you want and because it’s so different from your other one, may just need getting used to. Just add cushions to help tie it in a bit better.

I can see a softer look for this room and an Oushak is a lovely blend of modern/traditional and the patterns are more interesting.

If interested in a laid back feel, use a textured neutral rug, adding pops of color by layering cushions. Room will lean more modern as well.

Third idea: a modern take on traditional, but sill keeping it soft so that kitchen and living room might tie in, which is something to keep in mind.

The rug seems to work with the sofa, but the lounge chairs are too bright to work with either the sofa or the rug. They are the odd man out.

I’d experiment with repositioning the rug. I think it should go a bit further under the sofa, if the sofa is staying in that spot.

Have you tried the blue chairs paired on one side as in your photo with the old rug? (I do think one on each side is better for TV viewing.) Regardless, they’re both sort of hanging out in space alone, I’d try tightening the seating area up. Bring them closer to the sofa, if keeping them on each side.

It’s a beautiful rug — on my monitor I see colors in it that coordinate well with the other furniture. Darker pillows on the sofa would help tie things together even more. But it’s hard to say for sure not seeing it all in person.

Can you show what’s behind the sofa? Is it a wall or open space? I’m wondering if it’s possible to bring the sofa in more (towards the chairs and TV), or if it needs to stay where it is.

I just don’t think the rug and furniture are the issue; I think it’s how things are arranged, including the bench or coffee table, other tables, etc. I might be wrong, but at least it’s free to try tweaking a few things first. :)

The room layout looks nice it’s just the added colors from the new rug maybe that’s a change you weren’t expecting. I would bring in some deep caramel accents in either throw pillows or blanket. If you want to change up the chairs here are some ideas.

I like your new rug. I think if you use the use the burnt orange/orange color for pillows and accessories it will put the room together. I see you have some orange pillows near your tv. Move those to the sofa and chairs and see how they look. I would recover the foot stools to a solid color.

I use this company a lot to change up my pillows. The burnt orange might work for you.

I agree with Patricia and Beverly that the new rug does not connect the cobalt chairs with the space the way the old rug did. I don't know what would except more cobalt in something else. You could try bringing some cobalt objects (china, afghan, pillows) into the room to see if it helps or just makes things worse. Does cobalt blue fit the rest of your home? If not, can you refinish or replace the chairs? Your use of off-white walls all through the space in the photos, and your pale blue cabinets make me think your preference has changed away from cobalt. What do you think?

An actual wood coffee table would look better than either the ottoman or the collection of tiny tables you've tried -- more substance to hold its ground amidst the pattern.

To me the patterns on the foot stools fight with the new rug. You might consider recovering them in some shade of light brown/orange. The sofa pillow does you no favors--try one with some blue and if you plan for a shawl on the sofa, try to get one that has colors from th rug.

First, I love the old rug. But now with the new, I agree that the chairs are too off for the new rug. Maybe recover them like the blue in the Wayfair pic. Also the prints on the footstools seem very busy with the new rug.
