Please help me choose rug for foyer - size, style, new or used?
Comments (11)Thanks, prairiedawn. My style actually is more of a rustic/modern country style rather than traditional, although I have a mix of everything! I used BM Baby Turtle in the powder room and laundry room, which are adjacent to the foyer, SW Artifact in the great room, which is just beyond the foyer, and SW Believable Buff and Camelback throughout the rest of the house. roseabby, I spoke to the salesman at Macys and he also mentioned a 2'6" runner may be out of scale. The problem is I do NOT want to cover up most of the wood flooring. Would a smaller area rug placed horizontally across the front doors, rather than a larger run placed vertically in the room, look strange? The two doors are 6' wide and the entire wood entry is approx. 10' wide....See MoreHow to decorate new living room with new and old?
Comments (3)A few years ago we remodeled our house and so also needed to find ways to merge the new and old. Having a theme and some consistancy in terms of overall style and color scheme is very important. Get the bones right--as furniture can always be updated as you go along. One thing I never did, though at times wish I did, was to consult with an interior designer to help me with my color choices. Some of the best advice I received here on this board was not to rush it and take it one step at a time. Good decor is an evolutanary process that happens over many years. If you are putting in hardwood floors, then one of your first decisions may be to choose some area rugs and use those to build a color/fabric palate around....See MoreHow do I style my new living room with these teal, velvet curtains?
Comments (2)You should incorporate some teal, but only with small pops. Boho is better suited for bold colors, but if you are leaning towards eclectic/ Scandinavian it may be a bit difficult especially with the drapery’s fabric and trim. Last two pictures may help. It’s difficult to recommend specifics with you just referencing accent chairs and a chaise which isn’t enough information. Will you and need more - armoire, desk, bookcases, reading, yoga area, how much seating, etc. Think about all the pieces you need to make the room functional and then a floor plan will help. The colors and accessories will be the last part of the equation...See MorePlease suggest a new rug style/colour.
Comments (21)sir38 - if you like the rug, you can type in rug name as search term in Google, and a number of vendors will come up. If ordering rugs online, definitely get a sample if you can, or order the smallest size first; so in the event that you don’t like the rug and/or you feel it doesn’t work in your space, you don’t have to send back a huge rug....See MoreRelated Professionals
