Need advice on how to fix a bad tile job
Comments (10)OMG - what a horrible job cutting the tile. Looks like he used nippers to clip the tile or his snap cutter's cutting wheel is still the original one from the 80's. "...How and where did you hire the handyman claiming to be a tile setter, was price the deciding factor?..." - Tundra I think this is a fair question myself. If you are budgeting a job that is priced buy the square foot, some times the added skilled work is ommited. A skilled installer like myself or Tundra come with proper tools and experience. Check out Tundra's photos online and you can see he is a tile ninja.... I think a diamond Riffling File and some time might fix it but best to replace the cut tile with new better cut tile. Placing cut tile in the field of view is tricky unless the installer uses care and proper tools to make it look nice. And really the Dal Tile Home Depot stock is not really Top Shelf product anyway. Could be the tools where good but the glazing crap....See MoreWill this look bad? How would you transition this flooring?
Comments (11)I didn’t realize this new room has slidders going off to the pool. This changes my thinking. You can mix woods as long as they have the same undertones in it. I think the dark and light look good together as long as they have the same undertones. I love the flooring that you have chosen. It would be fun to decorate around. I can kind of visualize the look you want and I say go for it!...See MoreHow bad is this tile job ?
Comments (12)It's a good thing you didn't pay anything that puts you ahead of the game. In most situations homeowners pay a greater portion of the money, the contractor does crappy work and they never return if there is an issue. Tell her that she has 2 choices to make this right... #1 If she wants to get paid, tell her to send you a qualified tile contractor who knows what he is doing to tear out/ fix what needs to be fixed, at her expense and you will pay her the original price per contract. Or option #2 you will hire an independent and qualified tile contractor and use the money owed to pay for everything that needs to be fixed and done the right way because the work they did wasn't done to the industry standards....See MoreHow bad is tile grout, really?
Comments (6)It depends. In my current house we have bright white prism (cementitious) grout. It is a constant battle in our shower, I think it’s something to do with the water. No issues in the kitchen. Floor tiles are fine as long as I make sure mop water is changed frequently. In the previous house, I used the custom premixed grout, which is an acrylic and had no problems whatsoever. It’s a rental and cleaning up after filthy tenants is fairly easy. House before that was epoxy and I loved it too. The current issue with my shower is maddening, though. I wouldn’t recommend prism....See MoreRelated Professionals
